Oh, this thread is going to be lovely, I can already tell.

I got my Pegasus mount as quickly as I could and I'm done with the Diadem. It was fun having a few parties all farming dino island and it got really crazy when a brachiosaurus spawns right on top of you. Premade parties really are the wag to go to avoid issues like this although I only used df and had 1 person who just gathered out of 5-6 runs.
The problem I see is that I WANT to gather in diadem, but would probably just be pissing off any group I accompany randomly. I could create a party finder, but I have the feeling that gathering itself isn't very popular in diadem on my server. The majority of people I meet just want to farm 210 gear, and neglect other enemies and activities in Diadem.
There really need to be fewer restrictions with Diadem. It should be drop-in, drop-out, a constantly available instance that anyone of the appropriate qualification can enter. Get rid of time limits. Flying should be available initially, and solo gatherers should be permitted to do whatever they want.
They shouldn't even have 3 "difficulties" restricted to level 60. What a waste. Easy should be scaled to and provide decent xp and rewards for level 50 players, Normal should be appropriately scaled for level 55 players, and hard would be strictly for ilevel 170+ level 60 players. In it's current form, Diadem is like adding a new dungeon with 3 difficulties, the lower two are immediately ignored in favor of the rewards from the highest version.

OP, you didn't do your homework before posting this:
You must not have looked very hard because they're used in a lot of the Sky Pirate pieces, as is Cloud Cotton. Royal Mistletoe is used in Max Potions and Max Ethers. All of the other items in the nodes are Hidden items when harvesting nodes outside of the Diadem.
Bzzzzzt. Wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong. There are several Diadem-exclusive fish. Pterodactyls make leather for the Sky Pirate pieces, Gem Marimos make Max Potions and Max Ethers, and Retribution Staves make the current best crit food in the game. The same fish in here can be caught outside safer,
That I'll agree with you on. Chests are ridiculously rare.the chests they gather are not frequent enough to warrant wasting the time on them.
Uh. Funny, I didn't know that I was there to perform any specific task for anyone besides myself. Diadem is pretty open-ended content. Here's a question: can you gather in Expert Roulette? Of course you can't. If SE didn't mean for us to gather in Diadem you wouldn't be able to do it at all. If one person's absence from the party is hurting you that badly, you need to be looking at what the remaining seven are doing wrong. If you're down a healer or a tank, switching class is a thing in there. There's zero penalty for it. If DPS are putting out crap damage, well that's hardly my fault if I'm across the map fishing to make raid food and potions for my static.
I suggest if you want to fight, you form a party specifically to fight. You queue in Duty Finder, you deal with what you get.
Honestly, as long as you pass on the combat drops (common courtesy imo) they have nothing to complain about. The problem I see is that I WANT to gather in diadem, but would probably just be pissing off any group I accompany randomly. I agree here. They also could of just done http://ffxiclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Ru'Aun_Gardens, but we all know they're too scared to take anything from that game for some reason. The problem I see is that I WANT to gather in diadem, but would probably just be pissing off any group I accompany randomly. In the end.. if you use Duty Finder, to take what you get. Don't like it don't use it.

Is it reset Tuesday yet.
I question whether I'm playing a PvE game with PvP mixed in, or I am I playing a PfG.
I honestly think force pops, some of which using items from Gathering, would have worked extremely well in Diadem and have given DoL an important job rather than just eating up your possible claim on a mob because they're not doing damage. I mean, they kinda attempted to go the sky/sea route, with the force-pop tracks after defeating lower level monsters, but they needed to make it more layered, like how Sky's NMs popped Gods and Gods popped Kirin. Or like Abyssea, where you had NMs that popped NMs that popped NMs.I agree here. They also could of just done http://ffxiclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Ru'Aun_Gardens, but we all know they're too scared to take anything from that game for some reason.
I have no desire to stop people from gathering if that's what they really want to do. I just hate it when so much of the party goes to gather (I had a group the other day when both healers and the tank didn't do anything but fish) that everyone else is screwed over. I suppose you can do without the tank if you follow one of the other groups around in Jurassic Park, but things start to become significantly more complicated when you're missing healers (and sometimes even DPS because it becomes harder to earn kill credit). It's also a raw deal that someone who may as well be AFK still has full right to loot from a mob that they weren't even in the same ZIP code as.
It was a cool idea adding gathering to the objectives and giving it some use (players have been begging for gathering/crafting in PvE content for how long?), but they kind of dropped the ball by making them competitive with combat instead of complementary. The aforementioned force-spawn items and preventing someone who hasn't touched the mob at all from rolling on coffer loot would go a long way in alleviating some of the problems with DFdiem. For now I suppose the only option would be PF or FC groups.
With this character's death, the thread of prophecy remains intact.
I never have these problems with gatherers or leechers and I've been into Diadem 10+ times. I join PF groups that have rules set about what we are doing.

Don't remove them. Make them beneficial to the entire party.
doop doop
I personally like the current system Getting free crystals when a chest pops for a gathering class but to support your idea I suggest.
They need to do this.
Diahem Easy
Diahem Normal
Diahem Gathering (Can enter Solo, can't Change beyond DoL, Different goal to unlock Flight, Same cost to enter)
Commendations.
If I play dps I only give it out to other dps.
If I play tank I only give it out to healers.
If I play healer I only give it out to tank.
Only if they should be getting a commendation.
There are always exceptions to the rules!
