In general, one with less people is always more apt to be friendly and accommodating because there's less people to take care of. But with that, it also (usually) means there's less they can offer as well due to less man power.

With larger FC's, there's more personalities, more cliques, etc. This can be both good and bad. Smaller FC's tend to be easier to figure out if you clique quicker because there's less people you have to get to know first (but if it's made between friends, usually harder to break into the group). So yes, smaller can be better, but it goes both ways really.

Lol well that explains a lot xD. Our Fc on weekends put up Heat of Battle II and randomly invite "sprouts" whenever we see them, kind of a give back to the community thing. Now I know why only 3/5 tend to join for free food, xp buffs with this golden rule floating around.

Back on Point; Internet Anonymity tends to turn decent folks into toxic losers. People still Peoplin' I suppose. More than likely the FC you enlisted with was dying because of a few Aholes and they were buffing with their "friendly " recruitment lines. As you play you'll learn to avoid them. Easy fix would be go to a city and do a player search, view a bunch of company profiles, and shop for one that has "Casual" not "Hardcore checked off and see if you can apply to one with a comment that fits you.

People are a lot bolder behind a keyboard where you can't see their face and there are no repercussions.. Ignore them and move on. Hopefully that is not the majority of the player base you are interacting with! I tend to keep to myself but I noticed once I was more outgoing in my FC that I started to feel more at home. Then I took a break from the game for a while and when I came back, a group of old FC mates invited me to their new FC which was an adjustment too... Now I'm comfortable with everyone. It just takes time to find the kind of people you like and get comfortable with them. And if you ever need any help or friends on Leviathian, send me a tell!

I am wondering if it is like this across the whole game; that there isn't much welcome for brand new players. Am I wrong in this assessment or did I just choose the wrong FC and server?
That's terrible. I'm super sorry you've had such a bad experience so far. My advice would be to shop around for another FC. I'd invite you to mine [UINC] on Leviathan server but we don't log in very much as of late. Tho I kinda understand. There's a huge gap between the hardcores, the wannabe hardcores and the rest of us (midcores and casuals). You'll occasionally find a douchebag in a PUG and that's just the way it is, but you should not, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE, put up with an FC that treats you that way. If you happen to be on the Leviathan server friend me and I'd be happy to answer questions for ya.

I'd suggest trying to join some link shells. I had a similar experience myself, I actually wrote a similar post on Reddit and somehow I ended up in a few link shells where I've made a better friends than I did within the FC I was in. Ask around and hopefully you'll get to a point where you're happy in game and surrounded by players who are your friends.

My only meager offering of advice is if your in a Free Company that's predominantly Lalafells choose your words wisely. They are sensitive people and seem to be devoid of humor too. Also for the most you can also ask the server as a whole for advice. I have done it quite a few times levelling up my Bard. And when in dungeons too check out the other people see what gear they are wearing and etc if it's a class similar to yours might give you an idea how to gear up.

I'd say wrong FC wrong server as well. I think you'd be surprised how many players could relate to your situation. Many of us know people close to us with learning disabilities and can relate. I speak as the father of a special needs child. if your on the Lamia server I would gladly help in game any way I can. I'm always looking for good people to run dungeons with.

from what I see is the majority of US EU servers contains so many toxic people and you can defiantly add JP Tonberry to that list to avoid.

Try a JP server other than Tonberry and you should be fine Masamune seems ok.

Oh my! This is almost the exact same situation I am in!

I tried FFXIV a little while ago and decided to come back recently because I am very tired of the toxic people in WoW where it's so acceptable to be cruel that players have become brazen about it and even proud of it.

Lately some personal issues have made me feel like a hermit. Fortunately I can work from home but online games are where I do all my socializing and reaching out.

Also my boyfriend is only playing Fallout 4 so I feel very alone and intimidated by the complicated game systems and mechanics. I am an intelligent and experienced raider, but I am also used to a game where people tell you to kill yourself if you make a mistake in a dungeon! It's made me terrified of not being knowledgeable on every aspect of every game I try to get into now.

Anyway, I wish you the best of luck and hope you find a great home away from home.

What server do you play on?

I'm in a free company on Phoenix who I know would welcome you with open arms. A very friendly community that's helped me to no end with the learning curve of the game.

Either way I hope you stick with it, it's a great game and you will get a lot out of it.
