When will you really address the housing availability problem?

I cant believe you didn't see I was cross referencing a point. We upgrade our stuff to play new games, they upgrade their servers to support new games. I would think a 7 year old game will have vastly different storage and data handling on servers. FFXI for example was playable with a 56k dialup connection... If it were possible to give everyone a house, obviously they would have done it by now cause that's what people have been crying for (myself included...). I've said it before and I'll say it again, if the reason we can't get to creative with characters is "memory limits" (yoshida qoute) then that just makes you wonder about housing, I'm honestly surprised we have as many as we do at the moment. I just hope he's not throwing out random excuses.

I'm willing to bet a dollar that almost their entire hardware budget for the year was devoted to the EU Data Center move.

Could they upgrade their servers to handle more housing? Yes, of course they could. Anything is possible with enough money in IT.

Will they spend that money?

Not until after the Square Enix fiscal year reset next March at the earliest.

Seeing as this is the month that housing reclamation is supposed to begin, how are any land plots from inactive players supposed to clear up now? I can't tell if SE has timed it this way on purpose or did not just think the entire scope of this through.

Right about now it would be nice to hear about any alternative plans for adding additional housing in the next few months for the existing subscribers.

I owe you an apology Gyson and anyone else who thought reclaiming houses from inactive players was just a cynical ploy to get them to resub. I thought you had your tin-foil hats on a bit too tight, now I think you were right.

Housing has been such a disappointment in this game. I came here from WoW with a bunch of friends. The New Player Info. told us how great the housing was and we were really looking forward to getting one. Of course, after we subbed we discovered that housing is only available to a tiny percentage of players. We felt we had been somewhat misled but decided to save up anyway and hope for the best.

When they announced housing would be reclaimed at Christmas we started working extra hard. We should have enough to buy one from the game at the end of this month. But if inactive players are tempted back, it looks like our chances of finding a free plot will be slim to none.
I'm not looking forward to giving the rest of the FC the news. I'm sure a lot of them will be disheartened by it.

I'm really hoping Square will announce something for players like us.

I honestly don't think I would want to continue my sub if any housing became an option in the Cash Shop.

At this stage, I don't care what the reasons/excuses for not making more housing available are. They are promoting something as a major feature of the game and then failing to deliver. I would be happy to wait patiently if I thought the issue was being addressed.

It's disappointing that nothing has been said.

Exactly, this was a stupid move. My FC for example has roughly 10 different plots picked out as options for us to get a house. We have 31 mil gil saved up and are continuing to get more. Right before the house reclaim, SE gives those inacitve people yet another 45 days of keeping a limited resource and not supporting the game. I am honestly losing faith in SE.

I wish i was but that's how SE runs his game these days. They tell you they can't give you any extra retainer when there's way more items to store now than what we had on release but they are totally fine to RENT you extra retainers in the cash shop and not only 1 but multiple.

So at this point it wouldn't surprise me at all that they would rent or sell housing areas for real money.
