So I have a new thought on samurai after playing blade and soul. I really think that it should have two different sword stances for it's attacks that it flows between in a similar concept to the mnk. A basic stance that it starts out in with the katana drawn normally and from there it transitions in to a draw stance where it holds the katana "sheathed" and does another special attack before switching to the sword being drawn and that cycle repeats based on the attacks it does.

This was another concept I loved from the 7th Dragon 2020 series. When you sheathed the blade, it gave to access to it's elemental abilities. Personally it's my favorite type of Samurai Concept. But with the way XIV is, it would either very OP or underwhelming.

Honestly I would be for a double class. Yoshi P said in an interview a tank Samurai would be a Shogun. I would love in a patch to have both a Shogun and Samurai class, with similar but different weapons and similar but different rotations introduced. One would be heavier, one lighter. Perhaps one could use a Naginata, the other a Katana. Or it could be a bow+sword combo- as in weapon drops are a "set" with both a bow and sword. So many possibilties. I really (and am in the minority) like the new glamour pieces released from Rhapsodies. Big History buff- Japan from 1400s-1948, and Germany from about 1600-1945 (Prussia->NGF->Germany). Any classes that draw both from game and history I love.

If the game continues to discourage hybrids, I would really love it if there was an original class that continues automatically as a job after 30 and up to 60, sharing half its abilities until 50 with its alternate job that can be swapped to at 30. For instance, Ronin/Samurai. You can add the Samurai choice at 30, and/or just keep going on Ronin until 60. The same would effectively be done with just making a second job, e.g. Assassin/Blade/Nightblade, to complement Samurai as well, of course. Just not sure why we insist on naming these things that we only use for 30 levels before dumping entirely.

Why does every discussion involving Samurai end up being a Tank vs DPS thread? Yoshida said Samurai feels more like a DPS. His exact words. He chose DRK to be Tank, and tbh Dark Knight does fit Heavensward more as a Tank than Samurai ever would have. It's still possible, but I'm just quoting Yoshi.

OP: Love the idea. A skill chaining DPS would be unique and it is completely doable.

Legend tells of a legendary warrior whose kung fu skills were the stuff of legend. He was so deadly, in fact, that his enemies would go blind from over-exposure to pure awesomeness!

Thanks! I agree that SE needs to add a bit of uniqueness to future Jobs. SE needs to change their formula a bit as it is becoming a bit stale and kinda predictable.

I wish all classes had viable DPS options, like in WoW.

I don't believe red mage will be in 4.0. I think the line up will be Samurai, Shogun, and Mystic.

What?? Where are you even getting these classes from?

(not counting Samurai, which is obvious)

Elemental Skill chains mean nothing in XIV atm. Currently no job skills off another like it may have in 1.x or XI. Blade Bash (back of the blade) should stun as the only way it could be a ranged attack is if your toss your sword like Lone Wolf. or some other object ie: Coin (gil toss) or Jitte. Bard can increase TP via song and Nin can goad other people, Invigorate is due to Lancers TP consumption. If Samurai can increase its TP or regain there has to be a reason. Like one stance to increase TP cost for higher damage/crit with slower speed. Or faster speed lowered damage. Something that would make TP management important. Thus I can see Invigorate being a cross for instant tp when needed and for most of the regain descriptions. I can't see why a DPS would sacrifice TP for another player, even a tank if it means both could potentially run out of tp. I don't know how multiple hits would work for Zanshin. Maybe auto attack damage modifier, recast modifier for skills or ability that occasionally allows lowered TP use on weapon skills like a random Conserve Mp effect. But that would throw the combo effects of weapon skills off or make them like a bards rotation with no real combo chain and reduce the need for some regain tp buffs. Otherwise I'm reading it as a type of heavy DPS that has to manage its tp more than other jobs.

Other than Ninja coming from Dhoma, didn't Maiden event made a reference to her looking like she's from the far east? We have a map of one general area but where is Dhoma on the globe? Also Gilgamesh for whatever his cannon is, has a great katana that uses a move called Masamune (possibly the weapons name). We can assume that he is holding every "melee" weapon that is available in the game. The rune axe might be a representation to Warrs great axe, monks claws, drg polearm, pld sword but the only three unique weapons he had was the great sword (Dark), Great Katana (Sam) and a Mace (???) and one empty hand. Back to the point where did he get a legendary Katana from since he's looking for a blade of legend? We will get samurai eventually as either a dps or 4th tank as we got dark for the great sword. But what job would use a spiked mace? Godbert uses a hammer.

That's almost the same thing. Shogun = Warlord, and can be a proven Samurai appointed by the sitting emperor. That's like saying a General and Soldier besides rank are not the same thing.
