That is just plain silly. If you actually feel slighted event items did not remain exclusive, then I question what exactly you're placing value in. Put simply, those fun conversations won't be shared with newer players, because they aren't going to care about your experiences. I, for one, wouldn't want to hear about your experiences after discovering I can't partake in them for myself. That would only make me want them more. So, you'll get a "oh, coolio." or "that's nice" from me, and nothing else.

Well isn't that exactly it? Limited time events aren't indefinitely available. You take part in them while they're around and have experiences of your own, to share with those that listen, and get your own exclusive pieces. If my experiences make you want an item more, you'll pay attention when an exclusive event comes around that gets you really excited. You'll want the chance for your own pieces, and you deserve every one that comes your way in that event.

I'd much rather see events repeated so players can actually experience the event for themselves, but it just devolves into a cycle of players that missed the event, and players that hit the event when it came around.

Sorry, I'll admit sometimes that I'll see someone with event gear that I didn't participate in and I'll wish I had participated...but I'm not gonna complain about it. I just won't miss future events.

The folly of your argument is exclusivity, by its very nature, is feeling special. You have something someone else cannot acquire. So it's amusingly hypocritical to accuse people that wanting that item of "just wanting to be special!" Furthermore, I have to ask. Do you think anyone cares if you've purchased a Collector's Edition? Earlier, you mentioned "some kid" would be able to brag they bought a CE, as though it were some sort of noteworthy achievement. I find that sentiment rather odd.

Yes the "i didn't know about it" isn't a excuse, if you missed it sorry move on with life. Do people go into a store to find out last week the product they want to buy was on sale last week and demand that they get it for that same price cause they didn't know about it? Well working retail I have actually seen that but they are told no they can't get it for the sale price that was selling for week before. Now people will argue that well they can still get just have to pay a higher price, true but even if SE stuck stuff in cash shop then people would complain that the other players got the items for free in the game. So there is really no way to make the people that missed it 100% happy.

This is a rather poor analogy because missing a sale does not prevent me from purchasing the item, whereas advocating for exclusivity does exactly that.

If you see a cool seasonal piece of gear that you missed out on, you will want to avoid missing future events - which means staying subscribed. If you know you can always get the item later, even if it's once a year, that's one less incentive to stay subbed. It is, again, a business strategy. The point of doing this sort of thing is to get and keep subscriptions.

I cannot "pay attention" if I hadn't purchased the game to begin with. This would be a different argument if people were simply lazy and missed the event due to putting it off. New players never had the opportunity. What I find odd is how you seemingly imply your own experiences would be somehow diminished if those items were made available to everyone. To me, that only makes the side quest feel less compelling-- that it's the items you place so much value in instead of the actual mission. So, I will ask, how is your memories of the event changed in any way because the subsequent reward is now a Cash Shop item?

Yeah, no. It does not work that way. These are vanity items, which only appeal to people content with the game. If you have reached a point where you are periodically un-subbing out of boredom, an exclusive glamour piece is not going to make you re-sub unless you were already planning to do so.

You may be right in assuming they think it's a business strategy. But if so, it's a poor one.

Genuinely curious, but is this the first MMO for a lot of people who are want the release of all items? Exclusive items are the norm for MMOs.

I made an edit before your post that I would rather see events re-run than put in the cash shop. Seeing an item sold on the cash shop wouldn't devalue my experiences, but I don't see how it enriches the experience by simply paying for an item. The item is exclusive because it came from an event, by definition, a special occasion, and I don't feel the item should be available outside of that.

personally:
-"NO it's a thank you for supporting the game" you support something because you want to, you don't expect stuff in return for doing a favor.
-The experience of and limited time event: yeah the event was exclusive for a promotion you were there you had the experience of doing those quest or fates is what personally makes it worth and rewarding because let's be honest when there's an event and everybody gets the same outfit a lot of people don't even wear the outfit because everyone at that time has the outfit on what makes it so "ughh overrated"

tbh i'm happy that i got a free item ingame and I participate in a one-time event where i took a lot of screenshots and hang out with people there and for the people who weren't there have to buy it but good for them because they are buying it cause they really want the item so let them have fun with their character
