I did miss that. Apologies. That being said, you tacked on an aside. If people complain about the items not being free, well, that's their problem. You shouldn't restrict content/items on the premise people will complain. That much is inevitable.
I can count on one hand people who "lord it over" other players because they have a rare event item. Cry harder!

for the people who say you should have been supporting the game longer we already have a system in place. its called the veteran rewards.
that aside the only items i feel should stay exclusive are legacy items
Veteran rewards are akin to a pre-order bonus, and they are purely related to whether you have a paid subscription or not. Event items require you were a) subscribed, b) active and c) took part. Supporting the game includes more than simply paying the sub. You have to be active, and you have to participate in the game and it's events, that supports the game every bit as much as a subscription does because an empty game feels dead and loses subscribers. the seasonal and other special events are explicitly there to generate activity. If you fail to take part, you're not, in fact, supporting that.

I remember days when a "game" was to have fun...
There is no "fun" if items are "exclusive"...
Where does that bad habit come from? (Looking at others if they have more or less)
Do you have "fun" in searching for an item (example if you like its design) knowing you will NEVER get it?
I do not know why you feel better if others have less or cant get what you have... i feel pity for you!
If you have the items why do you care if others can have it too?
If you dont have the items, would you have more "fun" when you finally can get it too?
What happened with the old "true" gamers, must all be some sort of highscore with "I am better than you"? Really??
Its so sad...

I'm not that concerned with the exclusivity of my rewards. If everyone else suddenly has a legacy tattoo, I'm not going to quit or anything. But I also understand why people do care. That tattoo, that goobbue mount, those are special things that we earned by playing a game the rest of the world said was garbage. If they become available to everyone, they are no longer special. Yes, it sucks that people can't have everything, but if anyone can have everything than it no longer has any meaning.
Sure, from your perspective there's no reason you shouldn't have formerly exclusive items. But making them available devalues the memories and efforts of those that do have them. Consider their perspective - either way, someone loses.
I don't care so much about the item itself, but rather the event experience. People take part in the events, they talk about them, some events bring about social interactions that would otherwise be left untouched, they have special aesthetics, NPC's and dialogue, festive consumables, and at the end of it all, you get exclusive gear. What's more compelling to a new player when they ask about that exclusive item? When you tell them about the event you participated in to get it, what you enjoyed about it, maybe what you didn't, when you saw someone make a fool of themselves trying to do X, and the festivities that got you that gear, or, "It's an item in the cash shop, buy it." The new player should see events as something to look forward to to obtain exclusive gear, not a passing event to grab a piece of gear for free before SE starts charging for it.

But this enforces your own personal experience onto others. Your enjoyment of the event is not diminished because I had to purchase the content via Mogstation. While I may well fancy partaking in it myself, I appreciate they aren't going to necessarily rerun old content. It would be nice if they did, but c'est la vie. Instead, new players are left with being unable to get the items or participate in the event. At least making them purchasable is meeting somewhere in the middle.I don't care so much about the item itself, but rather the event experience.
