I'm a weirdo and have kept my XI subscription alive even when I haven't been playing it because I've wanted to show my support but they wouldn't let me. Now I can cancel XI and pay for the game I'm actually playing. I'm a grown up with a job, I'll just pack my lunch rather than go out for teriyaki once a month and my budget hasn't changed. I don't get the "I'm playing the game and obviously enjoying parts of it since I'm here but no it's not worth paying for!" attitude.

This isn't about whether we enjoy the game enough to keep playing, it's about whether we enjoy the game enough to keep paying. Enjoying something enough to use it while that use is essentially free is a very different thing from enjoying it enough to be paying for the privilege of use. A game that is free to play can get away with a lot more than a game requiring a subscription, and lot of the concern over this announcement is based on the feeling some people have that the game as it stand now and as we are being told it will stand by patch 1.20 is not enough to be worth paying for. I and many others have actually enjoyed playing for some time, but whether or not we feel that enjoyment is sufficient to justify paying a monthly fee (no matter what your financial situation) is another matter entirely.

Well if you are willing to pay 13$ montly for the mistake they made a year ago in releasing this game then thats great for them, maybe that will give them funds to actually make this game worth a sub and the time someone invests in an mmo. I hadn't really felt cheated out of the money I payed for the box until now. Later...

Yes I wrote Lol because it deserves an lol.. This game is not worth paying for yet..
SE made out like bandits on the sales of the game alone, not to mention the horrible collectors edition everyone felt ripped off about. This game has been nothing but a weight on the shoulders of the few people who stayed around to keep it alive.
You drop one update that you separate into 2 patches and you think it's ready for billing?

funny about Doing p2p now is the game isn't a "finished product". what they are actually doing is slapping beta testers with a metaphorical dick. even if they wanted to support this game to 2.0 with subs, its still not enough to convince investors in doing it.

IMO, it is a bit too early to start charging... if I was SE, I would have waited until 1.21 when jobs are implemented. Either way, I do understand the financial pressure the company is experiencing. It's obvious they are pouring a ton of resources and money into this game (including a massive team to cut paychecks for) to bring it to the massive 2.0 status it's promising us. I'm happy to pay knowing what's coming. Two things stand out to me most of all:

Con: Charging us a bit early and should have been planned for after patch 1.21

Pro: All the wah wah on-the-fence crybabies won't want to pay and gtfo

Well I'm actually finding I'm enjoying the game a lot more, I can actually make things when crafting, there is a ton more content (and because I'm not rushing to cap it should sustain me for the next year), and the fact that I'll get to "experience" the changes coming in 2.0 via storyline content...

yeah I can justify spending the money to continue playing.
