Because up until 2.0 launch, there will be a storyline occurring throughout Eorzea that will not be replayable. Those currently playing will be able to play through the storyline leading up to the what I would assume to be the coming of the seventh umbral era. Chances are we'll find some way to divert it, and the world will only be heavily mutilated in the process instead of completely destroyed. They said that come 2.0, FFXIV will shift to a new storyline.

With the current storyline, the last big battle being with one (or maybe both) or the Garlean Legatus says enough. I think I have what's going to happen figured out, personally. At least somewhat.

But, to sum up, essentially, we will get to play through the events that will bring about the new Eorzea. We'll have experienced something none of the new players will ever have a chance to - and we'll be developing our characters all along. If you want to come back to a new game, that's great. A lot of players will remain behind to play through the changes, though.

yeah i know i can keep my progress and i love the new changes, but wouldnt be better to start from scratch? right now i feel like the dev team has to keep at my pace with content, if i restart after 2.0 release i might be overwhelmed with content, and i have a few 50's and several near there, so thats why i think of it like that.

But yeah i might keep playing i dont mind paying for the game even if they charged since 1.18, its just that is just a new game, new maps, new gameplay, etc.

I was very excited about the changes...until i saw the roadmap. 2013 is a long ways off. Unless they release the PS3 version with a demo on Versus 13(which could possibly release in 2012) i really dont see any PS3 user buying FF14. Not to forget the fact that the Star Wars MMO and Guild Wars 2(And Dragonball Online :P) are all going to be released before then who really is going to be left playing?

I dont say that is a bad thing i really liked all those things they are adding but right now it feels like pointless to me to keep growing my character, maybe i'll wait and play other stuff and be amazed when they finally release the new game, idk.

Having great fun atm ingame tho it just feels as its a all new game coming soon and why spoil it with spoilers all the way.

Decided to quote both of you since it's directed towards a similar comment you both made.

While you may feel like you're paying to play a beta, at the same time you get to experience a section of the game that no post-2.0 player will ever get to experience, including the PS3 players. You'll get to watch and experience all of the changes as they occur and play through story that won't be had again. So, in essence you're still getting something for your money.

Also with 250 people working on this game, the boxed sales money would only last so long. Quite frankly, I'm amazed that the game has stayed free as long as it has. When you take into account the employees, the servers, development, programs, etc. they have to pay for this somehow and the normal way as far as MMO development goes, is to have your players pay a monthly fee. It has to be funded somehow.

I personally don't see a problem with paying a $12-15 monthly fee if it means at the end of this next year coming, we get something so absolutely insane as what has been posted here today.

I hope you take the above into consideration and decide to stick it out. A year will fly by in no time, especially the older you get. Enjoy what there is of the game in its current state and look forward to the new, better, more awesome version 2.0!
