Thread: Final Fantasy V2.0 - Discussion Thread

This was a huge statement from Square Enix. Sounds to me like they're challenging every other MMORPG by saying, "We will have the best MMO out, so everyone else better be prepared to lose!" That's what I got from this... and I love it! The game is great right now... and it's going to be even more amazing in another year!

Only 1 thing has me worried, on the roadmap it says "REBOOT PHASE", I HOPE this means changing over of server systems and not wiping our character data.

But omg this looks f**k**g sweet and OMG the new UI and game engine looks amazing....

Except Yoshida-san already said at least 3 times that our character data will not be wiped. Also, it was stated that we will be able to transfer our character data and progress in the info released today.

Certainly, making the Ifrit battle unplayable will be stupid. It's really only the story that will get removed.

From the post itself under the title "Conclusion of the Unbilled Period and Commencement of Subscription Billing":

"Needless to say, with the onset of the subscription-based billing system, operation and development of the game will proceed, and updates will continue to be released regularly as they have been. Between now and release of the new FINAL FANTASY XIV, we will do as much as possible by way of fine-tuning the game and adding new content. Our focus will be on the theme of a story that can only be experienced in the here and now, and the dramatic changes to Eorzea will be incorporated into that storyline. Each update will deliver an unprecedented and unrepeatable game experience. For those of you continuing to play, I promise that the release of these updates and the eventual transition to the new FINAL FANTASY XIV will both come smoothly and seamlessly. "

It more than implies to me that all the current content will be removed in favor of a post cataclysmic world due to meteor. I'm sure that Ifrit and all the primals that they are currently adding will be in the new world in some way or another, but it seems to me that it won't be the same battle or cut-scenes leading up to them as they are now.

All of the information that they gave us makes it seem like the current game that we are playing will basically become back story once 2.0 launches, and I'm more than ok with that.

That's why i don't think i will pay for the old game. IT's just not worth it.

I cannot contain my excitement to the progress this game has planned to make. Seriously guys, the 2.0 screenshot is sweet! I can't wait to grow with the game!

I like the content that's currently in the game. So with that I'll pay purely for the content that they are adding to the current version of the game that won't be there in 2.0.
