Something I found interesting is that the 7th Umbral Era story will not be replayable. To me this sounds like it means that the current story will only be available until 2.0 hits and then it'll be gone.

My thinking is that whatever transpires by the end of the 7th Umbral Era story leads to the dramatic area destruction that we've seen in the concept art. It's likely being used to explain why the entire game will look different after 2.0. It's kind of interesting that those playing up until that point get the "Prologue" as it were.

This is one of the reasons I'm thinking about staying. If I go the "I'll come back at 2.0" I get the feeling that once 2.0 I'm going to be thinking of how all the changes affected the game, how the game evolved. I don't know about you guys, but at least saying that I was part of the evolution of FFXIV (if it does end up being a good game in the eyes of the industry) is kinda exciting.

As long as I can solo,I don't care...

I wonder if the catastrophe will have something to do with Atherytes, especially after seeing the blackened out notes on some of the concept art and that "unusable Atheryte" CG which looks like those "things" piercing the earth on other concept art. Maybe the Garleans will overload the atheryte veins and they blow Eorzea to pieces, and since there are big Atherytes in all major cities....

Or there'll be disaster much worse and terrible than we can imagine. But i think it'll be connected to the aether too.

Also I remembered reading something about it, the beginning of the changes is mentioned in the Outline:

One day, a massive geological anomaly suddenly appears from deep within the ground. Current players will have the opportunity to unlock the mysteries surrounding this strange, new landmark in the coming months.
