Heres an idea, instead of saying FFXIV is becoming like every other MMO out there and copying their stuff.
How about we say the FFXIV team has picked out the good stuff to make FFXIV even better!

That's not as dramatic, and clearly goes against the OP's desire to have an arthouse MMO from a major publisher.

Personally I'm a little unsettled by some of these changes they want to introduce. The concept UI alone is something I dislike. One thing I like about our current UI is how clean and minimal it looks, I don't need a hundred icons all over my screen to point and click to. Hopefully that's just the concept one meant for keyboard/mouse users. Overall I suppose we may have to ultimately wait until these thoughts are put into motion and we see them. But as for me, if Phantasy Star Online 2 is released before FFXIV is complete I may end up finding myself migrating to that game instead.

I've read nothing that indicates that everyone will have their chocobo fighting with them except for the mockup screenshot showing ONE GUY'S Chocobo fighting with everyone else. It seems logical to assume that it's going to be some kind of ability that you're going to have to spend AP on in order to equip, like every other skill in the game, which means that to get your special bird buddy to kill shit with you, you're going to have to give up something else in return, like perhaps a defensive cooldown like our friend the tank probably did in that screenshot.Chocobos fighting with people: EVERYONE HAS A PET. Not only is this somewhat annoying, but it completely ruins the uniqueness of pet classes.
Also bear in mind is that the screenshot is a mockup, meant to convey the general concept of what things should look like. I'm sure that someone at SE will vomit crystals and chocobos on it before it makes it to live.
Dungeon Finder was one of the best things to ever happen to WoW. It gave people the ability to do dungeons without having to stand around in whatever the hub town was for who knows how long asking in trade or general if anyone wanted to run a dungeon; you now had the ability to grab one or two of your buddies, declare your role in the group-to-be, then run off and do whatever until the queue popped. It didn't kill the community, because you could still chat and converse with those people in trade, general, and whatever other chat channels, and you could still ask them if they wanted to do an instance before you queued up. And guess what? That's what people did.Dungeon finder: While it was good in WoW, it ultimately caused so much problem in the game. There is no community anymore, and no random interaction. To go anywhere or do anything, you just hit the dungeon finder. Random people show up, you don't care about each other, and you get the thing done. I'm all for a ton of help in getting parties formed, but hopefully it doesn't turn out like this.
I'd like to remind you at this time that you DO have a server forum, which is likely where you're going to get an idea of what your server community is actually like, rather than whatever fantasy you've fabricated. You may or may not be satisfied with the knowledge.
Achievements have always been stupid, but they've been optional stupid. I don't have to kill 10,000 squirrels in every area of the game if I don't want to, so I don't. In some games, they do have value, like in Mass Effect, where you get specific bonuses for your achievements; however, the acquisition of these achievements is so natural that you don't even have to try and aim for them, as they'll come for you if you just play the game normally. In WoW, you can get mounts, titles, vanity pets, and other crap that has no real bearing on gameplay, and thus can be completely ignored.Achievements can also turn out REALLY BADLY. The majority of WoW's achievements are not fun, interesting or anything. They're massive time dumps so you play more, and give you nothing of value. They're bringing that system here... will they do it right? Probably not, because they said there's over 300.
Try harder next time.
LOL @ THIS THREAD
2.0 is the only thing that will save this game.

all these constant snarky and demeaning comments I keep seeing on the forums make me realize that the game is beyond saving, not because of the content but because of the community. It's a complete opposite of XI, it now feels like i'm reading wow forums

Actually, the new UI looks like a mix of FFXIII and FFXII. More like Tactics Advanced kinda style even.![]()

Dungeon Finder ruined WoW?
I need pick myself off the floor after that one.
