Gunblade class, Imperials only?

Lightning's gunblade from FFXIII, the Blazefire Saber, is also in the game as a GLA/PLD weapon, but unlike the above weapon, is just treated as a sword with a non-functioning gun attachment (so really it's just a sword with a fancy fold-out blade)... (yes this is an old pic):



Really, the gunblade is probably the most overrated weapon out, especially the FFVIII version (which is literally just a sword with a rumble pack attached). Garlean gunblades seem to be a specialized weapon type that only the most elite soldiers (read: officers) wield, like Legatee (such as Gaius), and Centurions - the bulk of the Garlean Army... are just equipped with regular more primitive weapons like bows and spears. And even then it's just a pistol with a rather long bayonet added to the side of the gun's barrel.

So there's definitely a reason why there's no specific gunblade class in the game. It's a weapon type peculiar to Garlemald and even in it's native country it's regarded as being a rare weapon.

Yoshida have said that we will get a gunblade jobs sooner or later, mostly when we will get closer of the empire.

Who's to say SE won't give Red Mage the Gunblade. Although at this point what I want to see is a totally unique job to FF14, and no I don't count bard in that.

I've had that thought. Give the RDM different status spells in the form of blade shots.

Well its good to see some idea generation in here, figured thread would be raving by now. I think cross class jobs would really be neat. MCH/DRK 2 handed gunblade style simular to squall. MCH/PLD 1 handed similar to seifer. Theres alot that can be done with cross class possibilities that dont even involve gunblades. Question is whether implementation wouldnt require massive overhauls or bother the Dutyfinder system in any way. Wish they would make unique colors like purple for a cross class tank/dps for example or yellow for a dps/healer like rdm or dancer. Some Good ideas and discussion this thread. Thanks everyone for bein civil.
