I WISH I COULD PLAY FFXI NOW ; ;Trust are in addition to the companion/fellow. Trusts are NPCs from the game, whose appearance cannot be altered, and they're automatically synced to your level. Your fellow had to be leveled separately.
I've heard that Kupipi is the best healer, since she prioritizes status debuff removal over direct cures or buffs.
can you recruit shantatto?? ^^;;
Yup, I have Shantotto, Domina Shantotto and from this months login rewards, Shantotto 2!
(sadly can only have 1 version of a person out a time :P)
And when your healers run out of mp etc, just find a safe spot, dismiss and resummon.
A few months ago I had reactivated my sub (after about 4+ years of a break) and had a great time! Despite having access to my previous characters, I actually decided to start fresh so I could experience everything again as a "new" player.
***One thing to keep in mind - if you DO start a new character, a lot of the old R/EX gear and items are now transferable between characters on the same account****
So while I did technically have a new character, I was able to snag a lot of my old gear off my other character. That came in very handy
As others have mentioned, trusts have made soloing entirely possible all the way to max level (and it's pretty quick). Records of Emminence (google that!) can help out gearing your characters as you level and giving you a nice set for when you hit 99 (also a good source of gil if you NPC a couple of items...acheron shield comes to mind). Most story line missions can also be soloed as well.
Don't forget to do your Rhapsody quests ASAP as they add some amazing exp bonuses for leveling and a plethora of other things.
I would say you should definitely give it a shot! While I am back to inactive on the game (I just have so many other MMOs that I have on my plate ATM), I am very happy that I went back to explore Vanadiel again. In a very weird and nerdy way, it really felt like I was going home.![]()
I'm honestly not sure how quickly anyone would be able to complete all the content necessary to do Rhapsodies of Vana'diel. Changes to the game, removing exp caps, boosting base exp rewards, adding Trusts and Fields of Valor buffs - all these things have turned the leveling process on its head. The other night, I leveled my DRG from level 5 to 22 while wearing nothing but level 1 glamour gear (including weapon) and supported by a team of Trusts. The process took me roughly a half hour. Granted, I've completed most of Rhapsodies of Vana'diel by now, and among the rewards from that are key items that greatly boost your exp gains (a Tough mob awarded me 1800 exp on a exp Chain #2, for example); a fresh character who hasn't done any Rhapsodies wouldn't have those. So, I dunno.
Just to clarify a few misconceptions in this thread:
Up until the third part of Rhapsodies was release, this was definitely true - Rhapsodies was a cakewalk to do solo as a ilvl 119 Blue Mage for me. However, the third part was quite a kick in the pants - one of the first missions in the third part takes you to a new zone where the weakest mobs still measure Very Tough to ilvl 119, and the mission itself requires that you kill three mobs that check as Incredilby Tough to 119. These mobs use conal and aoe attacks for their melee attacks, and since Trust NPCs aren't very smart, they'll often stand in the danger zone, severely taxing your healer Trusts. I was able to kill the three I needed, but I wiped more often than I won (Reraise is a must!). If you can find other players to team up with, it becomes much easier - but solo, it's a rough ride, even with powerful Trusts at your side.
You'll be able to complete Rhapsodies solo while half-assing it, up until you reach the new area, Riesenjima. At that point, you'd best be prepared to get yourself some quality equipment, and/or quality friends!
This is untrue. Trust NPCs can be healed, buffed, refreshed, just like regular party members. Much like your Adventuring Fellow.
So no one does Colibri Parties or Oubilette Leech parties anymore? Worm parties post 75? Vana'diel is crumbling! I still haven't gotten my Relic +25
Seriously though, I'm half nostalgic and thinking of resubbing. Last time I had subbed was for Seeker's release right before FFXIV; Played through a few of the missions but meh. I must've missed this "trust" thing, regardless though they did institute these "books" in every zone that made leveling a few classes I had wanted to see (Did launch thru to WotG as a WAR/NIN/THF(Treasure Hunter II ftw) and they made the solo grind(from starting zone>Valkurm>Crawlers Nest>Oubilette) to 75 really quick and easy; just using the books buffs and such.

You can do those things solo with your trusts now.I didn't see any 6-man parties doing exp the old way when I was playing. Worm parties in Abyssea do happen quite often, although it's not always non-stop like it used to be (this was on the Asura server).
Forgot to mention, teleporting around is much easier now too. I believe all zones can now be warped to by using the Survival guides. Be sure to unlock any you see (there will be one at all outposts, and typically near zone lines).

Abyssea worm parties obsoleted leech parties and colibri parties, although the leech parties in the Oubliette are still the best way to level an adventuring fellow and to skill up. I had a lot of fun on WAR down in the sewers doing big Fell Cleaves on a batch of 9-10 leeches at once. Good times. But the Abyssea worm parties could reach upwards of 300K/exp an hour at their peak. That's how I got all jobs to 99 before Adoulin was released.
They also added in save point to save point teleports. Super handy. And warp scrolls are dirt cheap, as well as the multi-use warp rings.
Classic, glad I made my gil in Ishga...Jeuno selling teles before and during the ToAU days.
Haha, that's how I funded a lot of my old WHM gear back in the day
But with that said, the change was definitely needed at this point in the game. Actual teleports are quite difficult to get these days in towns. Jeuno and White Gate are pretty empty, and you can be shouting for quite awhile before you get picked up for a port (if you do at all).
