Tank leaving after big pull fail

    Hi,

I just wanted to ask about something that happened to me yesterday since I don't have a clear opinion on this (although I strongly believe I was not at fault, but I'm open to a dialogue).

So, I qued up for Expert Roulette, got Saint Mocianne's Arboretum. There is this message people are new (I think 1 or both dds) to the content (we are like 1 week into the patch, so that's fine right). The tank does a huge 1st pull without saying a thing. I tell him to at least warn us he is going to do such a big pull, mostly because people are new to the content and even though he's been farming it likely for quite some time already, it takes a while for new people to get a good grasp on the new content. The next pull is just as big, however this time he writes "big pulling". Half way through I realize we don't have the damage (Sch, Pld, Drg, Nin) to finish it before I run out of MPs. So I decide to take a risk and apply my dots + bane. Unfortunately, my lustrate is like 1 sec late and the tank dies. He leaves immediately. We wait for at least 10 more minutes before abandoning the duty.

What would your approach be in this situation? I'm not that bothered by this, I'm just curious as there might be a better way of handling similar situation.

Also, I noticed that the "healer should dps" thing (which I don't mind, I quite like it) got to the point that I feel I share the responsibility for the overall damage done and the healing at the same time. Is that just me or does anyone else feel the same?

    Thanks for reply.

Well sounds like even if you were DPSing, with a DRG and a NIN, they don't have the best AOEing so a big pull isn't the greatest idea. I would've concentrated on keeping the tank alive and done no DPS, except for maybe a quick AOE and maybe a couple Blizzard 2's. So if I was healing...I'd probably not say anything since I don't comment on things like that. If they wanted to leave because they thought the group was weak, then that's fine. Rather that then the tank throw a temper tantrum.

Speed pulls are nice but I wish some tanks would stop tunnel-visioning and look at party composition first before big pulls.

Hmmm. Arguably the DPS should have been enough - but it depends how TP efficient the dragoon was(they can do some massive aoe damage if done correctly but lack a long term sustain(and hint it's not spaming the circle aoe)) and if they got the goad as well and well nin has a few aoe potentials.

But no I really hate tanks that will mass pull without saying a word. But I'm kinda jaded from running all those zodiac drop dungeons for my nirvana and having to holy carry a crapton of bad tanks that haven't heard of a CD in their entire life.

And no not really your fault and he could have popped hallowed ground to keep going if he saw you trying to help DPS.
