How a Meridianum and Praetoreum run should be!

    Coming soon!*equips flame shield*

So as some people may know (or not...), I have my own FFXIV Let's Play. The focus is on story, so of course, I'm going to be talking about Castrum Meridian and Praetoreum today.

Last night, during my healer LP, I made it to these dungeons. I knew this might be a problem, but figured they might plow through it all anyways and was prepared for that.

My Castrum Meridianum run, I didn't count on the OTHER healer also being new. People got mad because we both were. Told us to watch the CS in the inn. I explained my position, they didn't care. I, of course, was polite, and told them to shove it then. Bam, kicked before I could thank the ONE person that stood up for us (Thank you again if you read this!).

So I ended up undersizing it with my FC leader taking it all on.

She had to go afterwards, so I sighed and signed up for Praetoreum on my own. I went in, and actually told them what I was doing right away, and they're like "awesome!" And you know what that group did?

They actually waited BEHIND the boss gates while I was in the cutscene so to not trigger another. We had an issue where I caught none of the Gaius fight, but eh, I can do something about that later. And a lot of them were enthusiastic about someone actually getting to do the dungeon the proper way.

I never expected to be greeted so kindly like that. It actually came as a surprise to me. They just sat there and had casual talk while waiting for me, some get to know you stuff, etc..

So why am I making this post?

To say "Thank You" to the people who are patient, who understand things and maybe missed out on seeing the true experience themselves because of jerks. You guys rock.

As for the people who feel people like me waste your time, do you REALLY need those daily tokens? You should expect this stuff when you sign up for MSQ Roulette. I'll tell you the same thing I told those Meridianum people.

    Shove it.

glad you got to experience them as they were intended, I personally try to let others watch cutscenes when I can, however as dps my voice doesn't carry as much weight as a tank or healer. Hope your post 2.0 story experiences go just as smoothly

First off, best of luck on your Lets play show. May it prosper in the best of ways.

Personal opinion, there is no " how it should be done " in any form. While I can agree that others could stand to be more kind to newbies wanting to see the story, On the other side of the argument, your running on other peoples time ( same can be said vice versa ).

There is no right or wrong, how it should or shouldn't. Only thing that should be done is being kind and considerate to others. I do my part to let folks watch the CS, regardless if its a main story of not ( there are a lot of neat non-main story CS ).

I recommend doing a pre-made ( unsynced optional ) next time for a show rather then counting on randoms.

Me and my missus had a hilarious run for a new player in CM/Prae. He was a PLD, I was a DRK, my missus was a WHM and we got a friend of ours in as SCH. We decided to DF the DPS for giggles. First thing we said was that this was a story-cutscene kill all run for a new player and if anyone didn't like that then they could have fun tanking without heals. Needless to say there was much moaning and 30 minute timers about. One DRG was cool and was like "That's cool, more time to drink my Jaeger" then we got talking about tastes in spirits, good times.

You do not argue with the tank/healer combo.

Sounds like a great group you got on that run. I know my first time through, I only got to experience a couple of the fights because one of the healers somehow fell out of the map and couldn't get back in for a solid five minutes. The players that tell you to "watch it in the inn" don't realize that watching the cutscenes between the boss fights is a far more immersive experience than watching the cutscenes back to back with no real context as to what's going on from one to the next. It's like watching an action movie, but skipping all the actual "action" scenes and just watching the dialog portions.....

I think the status quo middle ground in DF is good - most people will let you watch the cutscenes, but they will go ahead and pull the bosses as they only require one healer/tank, if that. You get to watch the cutscenes, and the rouletters get through the dungeon in a timely manner.

Now if you want the cutscenes AND the bosses, you're probably gonna want to reach out to your FC or PF for that. The same goes for those who want a full speed run. Nobody on either side of the debate is wrong, but rather SE was wrong for putting the cutscenes in those dungeons, a mistake they have since learned from.

OP getting kicked was unnecessary - with proper CDs those fights don't require healers at synced gear levels.

Watching all the cutscenes is over 20 minutes, longer than the whole run itself takes, in cm. It's even longer in prae. I wouldn't have kicked you, but I wouldn't have waited for you either. That's a lot of time to demand from 7 strangers.

As has been said a million times in a million other copy/pasted topics, those 2 dungeons are designed exceptionally awful.

Seeing as how you wanted a specific type of run though, you should've gone to your fc/friends/pf first instead of last. Plus if you are gonna ask 7 strangers to do things your way, "told them to shove it" is not how to go about it.

This. When I cleared these for the first time, I kindly skipped and watched afterwards. It's hardly courteous to be so narcissistic to expect 7 other people to cater to me. I will only run the main scenario roulette as a healer now, so I can contribute to getting it done ASAP. I (and most other over-geared healers) can solo heal that whole thing, almost on HOTs alone. I don't mind dragging the newbies through, but I'm certainly not interested in waiting for them while they eat popcorn and watch movies for 20 minutes.

PS: I'd gladly forfeit the new player bonus to halve the time I spend in there.

The only players who consider it bad design are WoW player, as the game has next to no cs. And due to WoW being a big game, a good majority of the player base came from WoW.

Those who play FF11 or similar, are used to CS in dungeons, the CS take really no time to sit through, and are part of the dungeon. When you que up, you agree to do the dungeon.

And it is a bit annoying to speak on the behalf of others, speak only for yourself.
