Aymeric's armor is only "heavy armor" as far as stats are concerned on the player wearable equivalent. Assuming a tank is wearing it. Also, he wasn't fighting the peasant. He was basically saying "Hello!" and got shanked. Surprise!
As far as the assumed material goes, it provides very little protection. And knives are actually really effective at stabbing through leather/cloth. You'd be good to call BS if he got stabbed in the shoulder though.

I wanna see what ya got on that.

This is a fantasy game, and we have people that have successfully blocked giant weapons with tiny daggers, not to mention these are magical weapons/items to begin with. I fail to see how you can't suspend disbelief on something like that.

Well if we're using the "Well it's a FANTASY" excuse then i want to ride into all my cutscenes on a flying purple hippo because it's a fantasy and there's no reason i shouldn't be able to. Just like there's apparently no reason a dusty old book or a tool used for mapping the stars wouldn't hold up against a greataxe.

You say that as if that's something really zany and out there, and yet we have loads of odd and fantastical mounts in game. "Flying Purple Hippo" is pretty much on the same level as many already-available mounts. But I guess it's interesting to see what arbitrary thing crosses into the "too-fantasy" zone for ya.Well if we're using the "Well it's a FANTASY" excuse then i want to ride into all my cutscenes on a flying purple hippo because it's a fantasy and there's no reason i shouldn't be able to. Well, to be fair the WoL was on guard and prepared to attack/defend when Jerklander turned his attention to the WoL.
But yeah, a short instance fight would have been better and then cut to that scene

That would kill immersion for me more than my character always getting destroyed by the echo during cutscenes.
And even with that someone would make a thread "why does my character always just block an never retaliates" you can't please these people unless SE just bites the bullet and drops cash on more motion capture. But you can bet the big wigs at SE still want profit so you can bet that eat into something else the game has that money could've improved.

Disagree someone made a mighty fine point about character height. A swing to cut a tall person in half, lalafell can just stand still and it'll go over head. So you would have to some extent make the enemy NPC's swing either always vertically. Or have to animate a different height swing. So races would play a role in animating fight scenes

Wow, people sure love making excuses for the devs. If people are complaining so much about weapon-centric animations, they could always create badass moments that have nothing to do with weapons at all.
I remember during the Ninja quests there was a cutscene where the WoL deftly dodges a shuriken from the bad guy like it's nothing. If we aren't able to use weapons in a cutscene due to whatever excuse you'd like, then the decent runner-up prize would be for the WoL to be able to dodge or deflect the enemies' attack. You've got no weapons to worry about, and the animation itself would be applicable to any size/race because there'd be no actual contact made.
Say a crazy WoD comes barreling at us, weapon in hand... and we the, determined and cool-headed WoL have a cool little evasion dance with them where they're swinging but they're missing us every time. The WoL is so often weirdly stuck in place during these sorts of scenes, as if they're too afraid to move or something. Dodge, move, make use of the scenery... maybe the WoD goes to swing but the WoL kicks something in the environment in the way.
It's very frustrating to have such a passive character in cutscenes when we're supposed to be the best there is, what others look up to. Instead, the WoL feels like the Scions are babysitting her/him. If we're really the hero then let us feel it, and not have us be second fiddle to everyone else around us.
