i remember them saying that they are working on it but i don't remember them saying it would be ready for 3.1.

Likely got pushed to 3.15 like the Anima Weapon Quests. Those were suppose to be 2.1 as well. I also remember Lost City of Amdapor HM was suppose to come out in 3.1. So maybe there will be a third dungeon, the Retainer Jobs, and (Hopefully) some more MSQs along with the Anima Quests in 3.15.
We haven't forgotten about allowing retainers to switch to jobs! As referenced above, we were aiming for Patch 3.1, but we weren't able to make it in time for Patch 3.1 and it's currently being worked on for implementation in the future.

How would letting retainers have a Job affect anything? Is there even a difference between DoM/DoW retainer classes other than aesthetics? Would the only difference be the ability to equip artifact/mythology/esoteric/relic equipment?


Well, yes, there is the whole artifact gear thing...
But consider the fact that there are players out there now with only DRK/MCH/AST, which is their new main, at level 60. And they don't intend to level any other class. These players can't have a retainer at 60 due to the inability for retainers to have Jobs. More than the gear situation, I imagine this disadvantage is the main reason this change is being made.


Well seeing as they also spoke about some sort of Grand Company army thing, where we could have NPCs assist us, I assumed the point of giving retainers access to jobs was so that they could fight along side us as companions. There was a time when they mentioned such a feature for 3.1, accompanying a raise in the max GC rank, as well as the Ishgardian school sidequests, but none of these features made it into 3.1.
Personally I'd just be glad if they reworked the chocobo companion to make it more useful, like allowing me to give direct commands and use during unsynced dungeons.
Thanks for your alterations to ventures. They have absolutely destroyed the MB! Thanks for nothing!


I hope you can get it ready for Patch 3.2. I'd like to reclass my retainer as DRK.
