Pairing an actual ps3 controller is nothing short of a nightmare, and there's a high demand for it. Has anyone paired, over bluetooth, one of the knock-off's?

I'll be honest with you, when I bought XI back in the day on my PS2 I played the hell out of that game for 5 years straight with a Playstation controller. So from coming from someone who loved the PS dearly, trust me when I say go for the Xbox 360 controller. The official Microsoft Xbox Controller is a little pricy (upper $40s when I got mine awhile back from Best Buy) but it is definately worth it.
For XI for PC and XIV I had used a Logitech Dual Shock PS-style controller for a while before switching to the 360 controller. And while I swear by Logitech the PS controller design is just not as solid as the 360's. Functionality wise the 360 controller's Analog sticks and Trigger buttons have a faster response time than the PS model(s?). Also one huge flaw I had with the PS controllers is that moving the analog sticks results in either standing still or running (on the actual PS2 version slightly moving the stick = walk). I fought with the PS contoller for several weeks trying to get that "walk" but I could never get it to work. The 360 contoller plugged straight in and everything worked perfectly (even my trivial desire for walking :P)
Also, its funky at first if you've never used a 360 controller, but I found it to be more comfortable than all kinds of PS models I used over the last seven or eight years.
One word of caution though: If you still play XI and use a controller for that game you will need a program to emulate Ctrl and Alt for the triggers because XI does not recognize them as actual buttons and it will not work properly. If you don't play XI don't worry about it, it works flawlessly with XIV.
I use an Afterglow Controller for both my Ps3 and my Computer. I just bought it at the local Walmart, plugged it into my computer and it was responsive was able to just do the FFXIV confiq and play. Works great
Power A Pro Elite PS3 Controller
Windows sees it perfectly fine, and it is a wonderful controller.
Rubberized finish, light up buttons, and rechargeable internal battery.

also comes in black
i use a real ps3 controller and i can walk perfectly with the stick.
Thanks for the input. I can't STAND the layout of the 360 controller, quite honestly. I'd go with the branded one, but I want wireless. The ps3 style is perfect, and I've tried to hook one up to my computer with zero luck. But I saw the knockoff's on ebay and thought that they might work since they're a bit different. I've been using the logitech dual shock for over 9 years now, and have BOTH of my originals, one 9yr old, one 6yr old, sitting right next to me. However the logitech bluetooth one is $70, and that's ridiculous.

I keep mine plugged in through USB and use motionjoy DS3 tool to install drivers, then enable it to emulate a 360 controller. Don't know if that helps, but it's what I do and my DS3 works just fine (as long as it doesn't come unplugged ^^
My friend bought a knockoff from Gamestop though, and was able to map keys through joypadder. I borrowed it from him at one point (so I could play wireless) but I couldn't get it to work. So I'd say they work half the time. lol.

PS PS2 USB Dual Controller to PC Adapter Converter (Amazon)
Cheap as hell, but works perfectly fine. It took a few days longer than expected to arrive though.
EDIT: Sorry, I totally overlooked you were looking for wireless. lol So I guess if you want a cheap wired solution this will work.
I use a PS3 controller and MotionJoy drivers. Works perfect in all windows games and is very easy to tweak to your needs if a game does not support all buttons or even emulate a xbox controller.
Just google MotionJoy.
