This sounds nice on paper, but in practice, my experience with this, without exception, is as follows:
The Gatherers are halfway across the map, so by the time they actually reach the mob, it's half dead. They just come so that they can lot any 210s that drop and not look rude doing so and because they don't want to actually do the harder, in the more annoying sense of harder, work (killing trash so you can pop NMs) while still reaping the rewards of it.
Which you are essentially admitting to in your post, at least, by saying you're not interested in killing anything but the NMs.

I think they're just too terrified of having to click a button to initiate an instance. If they don't see a PF to join, theyll never touch it. Heaven forbid they create their own PF and have to initiate something! Much better to go to the forums and complain about DF being a random grab bag and beg for the devs to cater solely to them than solve their own problems.
Is there any reason? Of course there bloody well is. Level 60, highly geared players do not, despite common belief on this forum, represent the entire player base, and it's not even remotely close. Such content is for players working their way up.
I'll never understand the conciet of those who've farmed the crap out of something and then turn around and ask why it's there.
If diadem actually encouraged a collaboration between combat and gathering, we'd be getting somewhere. As of right now though, the nodes are out in the open that you don't really need an escort, nor do combat classes have any reason to assist gatherers outside of FC collaboration for crafts.
Diadem = Loot pinata, wack mob till it dies and loot comes out.
Nice idea, with a 5 minute respawn timer for every killed enemy
How I see it:
easy = to farm fast tokens for materia (needed in 3.2)
normal = to farm gear (have to see what ilevel will drop in 3.2)
I have never spiritboned anything in diadem since you can't get grade 5 crafting/gathering materia anyway. but do the weakest diadem enemies give the same amount of spiritbond as the strongest?
Getting materia with tokens is way too slow.
