Duty leaving penalty should have some leniency

I was just in a random duty, Halatali, and the tank was absolutely horrible and he had a dps friend so he could not be removed. We had gone through 3 healers in about 15 minutes and the fourth was about to leave so I just left rather than waste my time any more. Why should I get the same 30 minute penalty as someone who leaves at the start? A healer roulette had just started so I figured I'd do something productive with my time.

Also, if a healer leaves you really should be able to opt to change classes to healer and look for a dps instead. If I had had that option I would not have left the run above since I could have dealt with the bad tank.

You can leave without any penalty if someone's already left before you, I think.

You don't. Who ever leaves first gets the penalty, after that you are free to leave with no penalty.

No you can leave when ever you like. Its only on the first person.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, that was not my experience. We start, healer leaves about 5 minutes in. I offheal as ACN until another healer joins, gets lost, finally catches up with us, goes to wait by the boss then leaves. Third healer joins, we go up to boss, tank gets locked out so I tank with my pet while spamming heal on my pet since the healer utterly refused to realize I had to tank the boss, then after the tank fails to keep aggro on the next pack of mobs again, I get fed up, leave, and get hit by a 30 minute penalty.

Vote abandon, vote kick the tank, leave while it's replenishing (which it sounds like you had plenty of time to do if you were healing as arc). It's plenty lenient as is. You just didn't take advantage of your options.

This is from the 2.1 notes, not sure if its been changed, didn't feel like looking through all the patches. Not that I leave many dungeons but every one I have left was always after someone else and never got a penalty. So unless it was changed, not sure why you got the penalty is someone left before you.

He's complaining because he waited to leave until the group filled back up (which is op's own fault)

First person leaving, means first person after the party is full. All of the healers that left your party ate the 30 minutes penalty.

If you left just after one of the healers freed their spot (meaning, there were 3 people in the party), you would have not gotten the penalty. But this is tricky, because had someone joined just as you left then you would have gotten it.

In short:
- Party is full (4/4 or 8/8)? You leave and get penalty.
- Party is not full (3/4 or 7/8)? You don't get penalty.

That's in my experience, anyway.
