    Gearing WAR 4x?

Hi, I am fairly new and have some questions about gearing my warrior. I have mostly "pink" gear and some 'green' gear all in the high 3x's. Should I just farm pink and green gear from the highest dungeon available to me? or is there quest gear I should be getting?

    Thanks guys!

I'd encourage you to do what you like, really. Personally, I'd make my primary focus getting XP to reach 60 and then actually pursue gear. Until 60, whatever you get is much more temporary.

The warrior artifact gear starts with the 45 quest.

    Happy leveling! =)

Thanks! I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to walk into a dungeon and get my party killed or something because I was under-geared lol

Welcome to the game wargasm. You've chosen a great class to play.

At lv.45, if you do your job quest and get the lv.45 ability, you will also get some lv.45 blue armor for your head, hands, legs, and feet. These are item level 50 items and will outstrip any other dungeon drops you would possibly get until level 50.

Because the quest doesn't reward a body piece, you should find the best body armor you can. If you find better gear, by all means use it, but you should be decent as you are.

I would advise you not to wear the scale mail series as those armors are designed for dps classes (dragoon) and leave you very vulnerable to magic damage. If you are dying a lot on the story quests or job quests, consider replacing that body piece. You will probably be a lot more survivable that way.

You may however glamour them at 50 if you find a look that suits you. However, you will not be able to chain pull the entire first half of the lv.44 dungeon in your current armor (dungeon mechanics actually allow some groups to pull this off, resulting in an xp farm for tanks starting from lv.45 to 50).

    Hope that helps.

    Gear comes in several grades:

"Normal Quality" NQ (also referred to as "white" though the background looks more like a light grey to me) - This comes as quest rewards, or can be purchased from NPC vendors. It's also the "normal" result from crafting, so can be made or bought on the market board from other players who make it. It's the most basic grade of gear.

"High Quality" HQ (icon has "white" or grey background, but with sparkles, name has a symbol next to it like two crescents conjoined at the bottom) - This comes only from crafting, and only if the crafter can add enough quality to the item by the time they finish it. It has better stats than its NQ equivalent.

"Aetherial" (or "pink") gear - This has the same main stats as High Quality gear, but with one or two random tertiary stats. That makes it equivalent to a HQ item with one or two randomly chosen materia added. It comes only from dungeons.

green - This has better stats than High Quality or Aetherial gear, (which will be reflected in its having an Item Level higher than it's equippable level). It comes from dungeon drops or from your Grand Company.

Rare (blue) gear - this is better quality gear useful at endgame (at least as of the time it was first released, so there's a lot of variation between different blue sets). You'll first get this from your level 45 job quests, and then starting at level 50, there will be lots of different blue sets. Once you get into this grade, they're compared more by Item Level than by level and color.

Relic weapons (purple) - This color is used only on the weapons you can get and upgrade through the relic quests.

Niwashi that's great info, so blue gear doesn't become available until lvl 50 (except for the quest gear at 45). So green equipment until 50 is what I should be aiming for

    You're welcome.

And there isn't actually a strong need for you to change it immediately. I am just saying that if you realize you are taking too much time or having trouble surviving, your body piece (because it is scale mail) should be the first suspect. If you're not having problems with the quests and with the DF, then there's no need to go change it until level 50 when you get your AF1 set.

Here's a full list of items you can use (play around with it if you like). Ideally, you would have this body piece from the lv.44 dungeon and your lv.45 quest armor until lv.50. It's ideal, but you could probably get away with less.

Aye, XIVDB has proven very useful for me in the past. The Lodestone also provides information that is in some ways better. For example:
