But it doesn't, because we saw that our Echo didn't weaken in 2.X while Hydaelyn was waning. The Blessing did, directly. In contrast to Krile's words.

I'd go as far as to say they unintentionally didn't differentiate between 'blessing,' as in "a gift," and "Her Blessing," which makes us supersoldiers.

All I could think about is when my character was confronted by the Warriors of Darkness after they took down Ravana, all she was thinking was "Oh please...I had to fight him when 1. He had 3 sides that would parry you. 2. I was standing on a tall platform with crumbling walls. 3. I had to deal with Final Liberation."

"And really, Steel Cyclone? Has no one told you the glory that is Fell Cleave?"

(Yes, I know, story/cinematic sense trumps gameplay sense and I did enjoy it for what it was.)

On the Blessing: Actually, the Ascians hinted a long time back that we weren't the only ones capable of gaining Crystals of Light. From the end of Haukke Manor:

It is no ordinary mortal who can acquire one Crystal of Light...much less three.
The crystals make you strong, and it is to that strength that the Light is drawn.

Basically, number of Crystals=Stronger Blessing of Light. What makes the WoL unique is that they managed to collect a complete set of six Crystals, whereas its implied most get only one, maybe two or three depending. If at all.

This may warrant its own thread in the future, but untill that happens here is my take.

What we know as the Blessing of Light is the Echo, which we assumed to be from Hydaelin cause we had no idea Ascians can use it as well. Really doubt the Mothercrystal gave Lahabrea a gift.
Speaking of him. One of the first cutscenes showed a pair of eyes glowing with purple flame. Did Lahabrea took control of the owner of said pair of eyes?
There is something else called Hydaelin's Blessing, which really is a neat status effect given by Hydaelin. It is a stacking buff based on how many elemental crystals we looted from Primals. MIdgardsormr can sever out connection to these crystals and thereby lowering the number of stacks to 0, but by triumphing against the forces of Darkness you can get these stacks back.

    Or something.

    A little dev help?

Lots of political tension in Ishgard, as expected. Fundamentalists trying to cling to the old ways of the Church, to the point of trying to assassinate Aymeric and committing arson across the city. And killing kids. Ah. Well, can't say I didn't see it coming...

Not much to talk about with the Warriors of Darkness, disappointingly enough. They beat Ravana, attack us, and disappear. Curiously, the Echo scene before the fight against them suggests they've killed (or at least are capable of killing) an Ascian, yet Darklander clearly being in cahoots with Elidibus says something he said or did swayed Darklander to his cause (though that was already pretty apparent).

And thanks for the assist, Thancred, but I coulda taken him. You're not the only one who's changed - I don't carry this slab of metal on my back for show.

Thancred's back, but apparently he can no longer use magic of any kind, which... could pose a problem. Forbidden magic is forbidden for reasons, Shtola!

Curiously, Matoya's Crystal Eye is here an old Crystal of Light. Which, as stated by Krile, is much more powerful than modern Crystals of Light, suggesting Hydaelyn has been growing weaker over the ages and her death is an inevitability wrought of aetheric entropy. This... is not all that surprising. Enlightening, a bit, but not surprising.

Elidibus is trying to convince Urianger that everything that's happened is fate, using an apocryphal tome titled The Gerun Oracles (XII references again). Well, Elidibus, take your fate shtick and shove it - anything can change! In all seriousness, though, the Ascians seem to think they're correcting fate's flow and Hydaelyn's interventions are defying it, which... is also unsurprising. Just hope Alisae (if that's who that was) turns out to be OK and steps back onto the stage.

Papalymo and Yda fighting Garlemald, likely out of Ala Mhigo. 4.0 CONFIRMED?!?

A lot of repeating, this is what I wrote up immediately after finishing the MSQ so I can look back in 3.2 and be mad at myself for being so wrong/stupid.

I figure Yda and Papalymo are in Ala Mhigo, helping the Resistance. (The NPCs in Rising Stones seem to hint toward this as well-- they mention believing Ala Mhigan refugees in Ul'dah helped spirit the Scions away.)

Elidibus and Urianger's book is another nod to XII. "Gerun" was the leader of the Occuria. The Occuria, of course, created the Espers in XII -- including Zodiark.
Confusingly, the book is in the Forbidden wing of Gubal, which means the Sharlayans found it dangerous.

The most likely scenario is the book contains the "true history" of the beginning of the Hydaelyn--more than likely a very different tale than we're presented with the Age of Gods.
I suspect Matoya's Crystal Eye is a Crystal of Light from the First Umbral Era, since she's a nod to FF1 (which would make it extremely powerful).

Krile's speech to Matoya was awful. Hydaelyn is the "Light" and she received a gift (the Echo) from "the Light"-- a blessing of Light. It's troublesome wording but I believe her not to be possessed of the Blessing. She has a blessing of Light, not a Blessing of Light. Rather irksome nonetheless. The journal says "not only does she possess the Echo, but has availed herself of the blessing of Light's protection." So I eat crow here; she has both.

Thancred's one good eye has been whitened like Y'shtola's. I wonder if this is indicative of a similar blindness or just a "hint that not is all as it was." So does he see aether too or is his newfound Garleanhood the only side effect.

Edmont is savage tho, poor Artoirel. Right in the front of everyone lauds his bastard son above all else compares the Lord Commander to be a favorite son in front of his own kin. It looks like both of Haurchefant's brothers will get fleshed out, which is rather nice. The younger doesn't particularly seem to be on board with everything that's happening now...

We also never saw what happened to the priest who tossed the girl off the building. I hope the Scholasticate quests delve more into this.

Where the hells is Nidhogg off to? I'm expecting Azys Lla.

The return of Alisaie is the single most hype thing from this patch and if you disagree you are wrong.

Also I don't remember if it's changed since 3.0, but Urianger is no longer idly reading in the Waking Sands. I mean he's there, but it's weird to see him without his nose in a book.

Im mostly upset at how Y'shtola's blindness and thus inevitable death due to her 'aether sense' yet again went ignored..
A thread on it was made earlier and the most popular theory was that we'd somehow use the crystal eye to restore her eyes, and thus save her life. This theory came from the matoya's side quests where multiple mentions of the eye were made and it was made clear in no uncertain terms that matoya cares about Y'shtola deeply.

Yet what happens? crystal eye's been sitting there all along, no mention made of her blindness, AGAIN, and we continue to just sit here and wait, wondering when she'll die from using her life force, which the ENTIRE cnj storyline told us, is FATAL if used for too long.

We read that scene very differently. I read it as Eldibus pointing out what is written will happen if we stick to our current course, as something that he is trying to prevent.

Too soon to say for sure, but I don't think we've ever been portrayed as being on the "screw destiny" side of the fence.

Poor Alphinaud. First Matoya brings him down, then Krile takes a jab at him. If subsequent story lines keep it the guy is gonna walk off a cliff I fear.

I think the flashback merely showed a similar scene we had with Lahabrea in the intro cinematic. You know with the glowing job weapons and all.

Yeah Flow causes all sorts of problems, but it was either this or both dying. Granted all but Minfilia are confirmed alive so I guess nobody died in 2.5. Go figure. Probably Teledji will pull a Darth Maul as well.

It was definitely Alisae. Only she and Alphinaud has those shoes. I doubt she will die. Not off screen anyway. Sure, Darklander noticed her but I am sure the worst she gets is a bound wrist and a filthy rag stuffed in her mouth. Probably not even that cause of PS3 limitations.

It might have been Ala Mhigo but could have been Thanalan. Well probably Ala Mhigo cause there is a notable Garlean presence. Going to AM would be nice cause all the Ala Mhigans would finally shut up about doing everything it takes to take it up. Well everything except for joining up with the venturer who kills demigods every day. Better try to kill him/her.
As for 4.0 Yoshie-P did say that the first major decisions have been made. Since the basic question of 3.0 was fly or swim and we got fly, I think we will get swim.

Guess she isn't in a big hurry to die. It will be brought up when it is time to bring it up. You might have noticed that the main scenario was half the usual lenght. We had to establish Krile and the Warriors of Darkness, bring back Thancred and move the plot forward. That's a lot of work. No wonder we got two stingers.

Don't forget Estinien making fun of her. Errr sorry. Him.

Girlpants has really grown on me over the last few patches, but I still love it how his shortcommings and past mistakes are brought up.
When she accidentally hit on Y'shtola was pure gold. Really the writing was peerless in this patch.
