Krile was at least foreshadowed back in... what, 2.1? 2.2?

Either way, yeah, Sharlayan ex Machina is getting a tad old, just like the Allagans. At least we got a sort of important character who feels the same way about Allagan crap this patch, though.

Also agree on the Sharlayan-saves-the-day nonsense getting a bit old.

Hence why the AST storyline was so interesting for me, where you see and experience the more negative side of the country.

We actually saw more of the negative side even before that. After Moenbryda's death, we found out that Louisoix became a social pariah back in his home city for 'interfering with the course of history.' And before even that, in the Tales from the Calamity short story 'In Louisoix's Wake', Louisoix's son (and the twins' father) tried to talk him out of going back to Eorzea citing that it was Sharlaya's duty to record history, not participate in it. Making it worse is that Lousoix was highly regarded before that, which led not only Moenbryda, but the twins as well, driven to find out just *why* he did it.

Sharlaya-Ex-Machina may seem to be getting old, but its kinda unavoidable when *all the Scions save Minfilia* are Sharlayan. And they are explicitly the exceptions to the rule in regards to Sharlayan society. Sharlaya itself could give less of a damn about Eorzea, even going so far as to ditch their colony when the Empire loomed.

And as a few others have cited, Krile was foreshadowed as far back as the original 2.0 storyline (Minfilia contacts her by linkpearl after the escape from Castrum Centri). We went through several patch cycles and an expansion release before they finally cashed in on it. I think on this occasion, its kinda excusable.

Oh, I agree that it's understandable given our acquaintances and there's no doubt that it has been foreshadowed, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. I find it stale.

I wonder just how much the heads of Sharlayan know about what's to come? Afterall, they are experts in Astromancy/astrologian so they atleast may have "seen it within the stars"

And then there's the Gerun apocrypha text and how it's speculated that many things have already been preordained and that the Asciens are doing their best to keep things according to plan. While I don't think they're working with each other, I do believe that Sharlayan and Asciens are of like mind to a degree.

INB4 we find out that Sharlayan got the Ascians to destroy Val becuase there are too many "traitors" there (Krile namely)

I didn't get that at all, honestly. All we got from that scene is that there's a bunch of preordained stuff involving a lot of key players (including Garlemald and the Triad), but much like Middy back in 2.5, Eldibus is pretty damn vague about how, exactly he feels about all that, just that it means things need to be done. My guess is that his vagueness is actually a sign that he is firmly in the Vayne Solidor camp, and actually wants to stop whatever is written will occur.

I get that we all want to be the good guys, and we all want that to mean we're already on the "screw destiny, I make my own future" side of the fence, but there is no evidence to suggest that we are. If anything, there's more to suggest that we aren't.

I can agree with this. We do seem to be in the "follow destiny" camp while Elidibus & co. seem to be in the "fight fate" camp.

I'm the sort of person who prefers to observe, consider, and reason what is right and wrong for myself instead of following the "listen and believe" philosophy. If Elidibus can provide a convincing argument for going against Hydaelyn, I would have no problem doing so. Until he does, however, his enigmatic bullshit is not convincing me.

At the same time, even if the destiny Hydaelyn has spelled out for is is ruinous, I will fight that ruin to the bitter end. We heroes exist to make the impossible possible, right? So there's no reason we can't work with Hydaelyn and spare the world from its supposedly ruinous fate. That is what I mean when I say Elidibus can take his fate shtick and shove it.

To be fair, I think it's less Elidibus in this case and more SE being vague and purposely cutting off conversations while trying to keep up the image that Elidibus is sinister. Elidibus seems to have at least convinced Urianger to listen to him repeatedly, but Urianger did defend/use the Elidibus-point of view when introducing us to Unukalhai (totally-not-Elidibus-or-Elidibus'-servant). Unukalhai hasn't been entirely dishonest with us, either.
