    Use stamina in the same way you did in FFXIII

    How the ATB system and Stamina work in FFXIII was pretty good. Moves were assigned a certain slot cost so basic attack was 1 slot and more powerful attack's used more. As you levelled up you stamina bar grew allowing more slots for greater combinations of moves as you could stack them to release them in a combo. So if your stamina bar had 5 slot's you could launch 5 basic attack's in a combo. Or mix it up with 3 single slot moves and a more powerful double slot move. The system even had a built in auto attack that you could toggle on/off quickly. The whole system could be applied to FFXIV and each move assigned a certain slot cost and could probably do away with cast times to for mages just by increasing the slot cost for higher tier spells like Flare could use 8 slots or something.

    Here is a video for anyone who hasn't seen it in action.

    Ignore the Paradigm shift, stagger bar and all that nonsense, but how the actual stamina system itself works is great. When I played FFXIII and then started hearing the rumours of FFXIV and a stamina bar this is what I imagined it to be like on a next gen MMO. Infact I would even take the UI for the battle system in FFXIII over the current system in FFXIV. As a controller user, FFXIII seemed a lot more streamlined in the battle UI department.

    *EDIT* Also spell animations like in the vid would be great too ^^

    not a bad idea, if I may make a suggestion: Instead of of copying xiii's atb system, you could allow the stamina bar to grow every few levels, giving you more stamina to use in fights. I'm not so sure that the battle UI would work, since ffxiv is has both controller and keyboard controls (I'm a keyboard user for example) In some ways the stamina cost in the current interface is like the slots you are talking about, and was probably what the developers intended.

    FFXIII has the best battle system in all FF series, I would really love battle system to be like that. each role fit their theme well, and are important. The game sold bad because of other reasons.

    I think Alise meant in the fact that the class actually did what they were supposed to do. And it wasn't just about pressing X... you had to change classes to certain situations. I liked the game, and some of the mechanics were great. PLUS you had the ability to choose for 'auto-attack to the current situation' or pick your own skills to use.

    I think FFXIV and FFXIII combat are kinda of the same in the fact they had an ATB setup. While FFXIII had you changing paradigms for controlling the whole party FFXIII has you selecting just one attack at a time. This what I meant by stacking commands to the stamina bar. If gives people the option to have alittle more free time in combat without having to spam button but keeps the concept of FFXIII unique combat system intact.

    Guess you guys don't really play it and just hear-say about FF13? (or play in easy mode NA?)

    FF13 make role (which can be class here) very important and it influence in many possible strategy base on situation.
    Especially on the end game part, you have to change role of very often, and you need to bring all the benefit of each role to their fullfill, it is good end game with more strategy than any FF ever.

    Surely FF12 gambit system work fine for strategy too, but it is annoying to see how magic in that game is too useless, and each role is not balance which lead to the end-game content that only use buff and normal attack spaming. (FF13 role is balance and useful since the start until end game)

    Wasn't all FF always allow you to beat boss easily with cap status and spam strongest attack anyway? FF13 is not. Role is very important.

    the JP ver need good strategy, and quick respond to situation until they make an easy mode for NA players later with their NA ver.

    For someone who mention "leader die = end" part. You should have realized that this is MMO, and that feature wouldn't ever come in this game anyway. so no point to mention it.

    FFXIII's ATB system felt like a primitive/slower version of FFXIV's stamina system. With how the game was set up it was harder to execute just one action. Not to mention the AI was pretty spot on with battle tactics so there was usually no reason to use anything other than auto-battle. The only thing that I ever had to take over manually was healing, if all 3 members were hurt it would default to Cura even if one really needed healing more than another.

    I think FFXIII battle ATB was much quicker than FFXIV. I don't know how did you say that it is slower. I was playing it on JP ver, was there any different to your version? I remember they even allow "auto command" because it was too quick to select all default within time.

    I think that copy FFXIII battle system is very good idea, but they need to remove "auto command" out, because we don't want all players to rely on auto mode. ^^;
