OMG you guys. I am all downloaded now. The run launcher in admin worked. THANK YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH! I tried it once and it didn't help. But after hunting through my folders and posting the above pic - I went ahead and tried it again. THANK YOU, MUCH LOVE!!
Found this solution from a forum post way back, worked for me (first step).
Some things that can solve the problem:
1. Uncheck the case "Read Only" in the Properties of your Square-Enix and My Games/Final Fantasy XIV: ARR folders
2. Run as administrator
3. Use compatiblity mode to XP.
That worked for me last time I had this problem. But that's still a shame we have to go through this to update every time, and since the beginning of beta tests.



This is what my folder looks like. When I try to open the top item (the only thing that says Boot in it) it won't open. What am I looking for?
Open the file with Notepad.



Open the FFXIV_BOOT.cfg with notepad or wordpad, etc.
Right-clicking the file should give you an option for Open with... and if a standard text editing program isn't already in the list chose More Options, and pick any normal text editor you see there---if none are listed then you click to search for one and then drill down to one. If you browse to the Windows folder, you should find notepad towards the end of the list.

I'm not exactly sure because I didn't have the issue myself, but the last time I had to edit a .cfg file for WoW, I think it was right-click on it and open in Notepad. If that doesn't work either, hopefully someone who knows comes along to save the day![]()

Fixes the issue you are having. I just had to do this myself.
Basically, the game didn't automatically download the new launcher for you. Setting BootVersionCheckMode = 1, will force it to download the new launcher so you can get the update.


Mines failed 3 times now for a different reason entirely, which it doesn't even say it just says it failed and closes.

I did have 2-3 fails during the dl which made me panic all over again. Also my dl speed was crazy low (I have like 80mbps) so I did a /flushdns and restarted it. It finished in about 15 mins once I did that (with no additional error failures)
