Viera can be different from Miqo'te.

Viera would be the equivalent of Miq'ote. A Hyur (probably Highlander) with ears and maybe some claws. What about some Burmecians? Qiqrin's already to seem to resemble them in some ways, giving an easier lore assist.

I really wish they'd add Vieras in the near future to cater for the furry fan-base and just because bunnies are adorable. But hey, at least we have the bunny costume from Gold Saucer!

dev teams are liable to change their game-lore at will. retconning has and always will be a thing.

But FFXIV barely has any of that, if any. Nothing that disturbs the lore at least. There is a reason why FFXIV feels restricted and linear with some things. Such as Bard/MCH. SE's development sector has never really been a place where retconns happen.

That said, I wouldn't want Viera added because they'd likely lose most of those defining traits for development purposes. Which is also why a bestial race will likely never added.

At least, not with such a small development team.

Well on the other pictures the nose/facial features are quite longer as well.

If they added fur along the skin it would give the race a nice unique look, whilst still looking humanoid but very non-human.

No thanks to the fur. I'd want to play a Viera, not a rabbit with human beasts.

The issue with mostly bestial races is a LOT of people (don't let the numerous threads begging for it fool you, it's just a very loud minority) don't want to play characters that look like they were designed by an artist on furaffinity. Such as Tauren, Pandaren and Worgen. And with a small development team, they can't really justify creating races and then designing armor around those races when an incredibly small player base is the only onse who'd play them and make use of that time.

The defining traits Viera have, like the hind legs is still possible to be left alone if implemented in FFXIV. Their FFXIV concept art having the hind legs still, and that playable characters wear sandals with high heels by default that it would be a bit easier to work gear with a Viera's feet that way.

Also the massive proportion difference didn't stop Lalafells and male Roegadyn from existing.

I am cool with girls getting Viera as long as guys get something else.

I want to change character models sometimes and I don't think Viera males will look cool.

They had no choice but to add lala and roe since the original devs added them. Yoshi noted once that he would have chosen something other than the ffxi races for xiv if he had the original choice.

But frankly I am happy they didn't add Viera and so tired of all the threads asking for them. We have cat people and lala, that's good enough for oversexualized and cutesy. If they do add something else it needs to be something more beast tribe-ish or monstrous. Au'ra were a good first attempt but are still just Elezen with horns.
