New suggestions for jobs that would shake it up.

Samurai (Dps); I think it'd be a mistake to make the samurai dps. There isn't yet a sword-wielding dps class and the samurai seems perfect for a damage-dealing sword wielder. They don't traditionally use shields!

Geomancer (Tank); A magic-based tank would be amazing. The geomancer is like an earth-mage; creates stone barriers to protect allies, summons rock golems to take aggro, etc. Main weapon would be either books or rods?

Chemist (Healer); A non-magic healer would also be a breath of fresh air. Chemists are item specialists. They'd use TP to use items from a "Stash" (like FFX-2); potions, ethers, stat-boosting items, etc. Could also use grenades, crystals, etc for offensive tactics. Some abilities would allow the Chemist to use items on the whole party. Main weapon would either be a rod or maybe a handgun.
