Square's new RMT solution. Will it work?

I always liked the old school idea of active GMs hanging around in game. Considering when I was on Jenova I was able to fill my blacklist in under a week with RMT bots, imagine the damage someone with the power to ban could do to the RMT bots. Make advertising RMT in any form a flat out ban-able offense (if it isn't already) and set the GM Ban Squads loose.

Granted it's not foolproof, but it's a helluva lot more effective than the series of bandaids SE keeps throwing at the problem.

I say no, the issue isnt the friend requests, its the constant spam in tell and say that fill our chat and force us to either go /busy or turn tells off completely. Myself, I am not affected with the friend limit as I don't friend many people anyway, maybe 1 a month at best xD

Can you imagine how many less RMTs we would have running around if some of us could be taken on as temps or w.e? Visit each capital for about 5minutes each and wipe a good amount I'd say xD

My suggestions to curb some of the annoyance of /tells:
Quest: /Tell Me Sweet Nothings
Requirement: Any Class, Lvl. 1 or Above
NPC Giver: Adventurers' Guild Master of Starting City
Rewards: Ability to send /tell. (absolutely NO gil)
Description: Adventurers' Guild Master is worried about one of their waitresses, who is being harassed by a customer who doesn't understand that being pleasant and accommodating is her job. She sends you to /tell the annoying customer off, you report back to her and the adventurers' guild master and get the ability to /tell.

It could unlock a quest for /shout as well, to slow down the number of characters that RMT generate capable of /shouting and /telling.

Other than that, instead of having a hard limit, lock the ability to make friend requests after the character has been turned down 3 times for an hour. If they get rejected 3 more times, make it 6 hours. 3 more times after that? 24 hours without friending for you. Daily limit of accepted friend requests should at least be the number of players in a full party (8), if not for a full raid (it's 24, right? Haven't done any of the dungeons that require multiple full parties).

Basically, other than a larger number of more active GMs, all you can do is make it harder for RMT and force them to slow down a bit, by forcing them to either bot the quest or to pay someone (loss of profit) to play through it.

Honestly, this is my guess, incoming Linkshell invites. So if you don't want to be invited to a LS by an RMT might want to fill up your slots so you can't recieve any pearls.

Personally a user edited filter list is superior than a blanket "turn tells off from non friends" option by a huge margin. The latter will likely just have them spam shout while the former will specifically block tells with relevant and matching words.

It's not so much a solution as it is a counter measure. As a counter measure, it would help to alleviate some of the friend request spams. Although they also made it so you can skip the opening cutscene...is there a limit to how many characters you can create per day?

I've not experienced this. Someone needs to be on your fiends list to send you mail last time I checked.

Friend requests are a problem. I have played on two very different servers, and on one, friend request spam was absolutely insane. This will definitely help servers which have this problem. Remember that just because you don't experience it doesn't mean that nobody else does.

However, for the servers that experience a lot more /tells, /shouts and /says, this isn't going to help any. They could certainly do more about the RMT's but I'm glad they've acknowledged them and taken a first step.
