Would be nice if we had the option to delete/hide lines from our chat log. Then we wouldn't have all that RMT multi-line gobbledygook taking up space in the chat log.

pretty sure as long as a friend request is active (not denied), they can mail you.
that being said I think this is more of a lateral move than a step forward, personally.
Wow doesn't have that you're thinking of the chat restrictions on trial accounts which FFXIV has.
From how I'm reading it I think it means the cutscene that you can't skip when you start the game for the first time after installing. It's not so much a solution as it is a counter measure. As a counter measure, it would help to alleviate some of the friend request spams. Although they also made it so you can skip the opening cutscene...is there a limit to how many characters you can create per day?

Could be worse, they could be writing their website in the middle of town with dead bodies like WoW.
I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this but, how about a friend request filter instead? There is a lot of talk about a tell filter. Why not also implement a friend request filter.
Ex: not receiving requests from level 1 characters.

It's not an "RMT solution". It's a (very small) drop in the ocean - a welcome one, sure, but its applicability remains very...niche. And we'll have to wait to see if it isn't just gonna result in RMTs setting more of their bots to "friend request mode".
I'm glad they did this, to be honest. But really, this only eliminates one very annoying facet of the RMT issue. It won't reduce the number of RMT's at any given time. I've been thinking about this a lot since I saw this in the patch notes, and I think the best solution would be to limit any /say, /yell, or /shout to one per second. o_O Simple. Nobody will be affected by this EXCEPT RMT. Party chat, linkshells, free company chat, these would all be unaffected and people can still have fun with long, rapid-succession macros like Ascii pictures (If they really want to...). But limit the time between uses of public channels. Hell, /yell and /shout could even have 5 or 10 second cooldowns and I don't think anyone would particularly mind that much.
I honestly don't understand why they can't simply add an option to block all tells except from people already on your friends list.
This "solution" will be worthless on Odin server, since the start of Heavensward, there were no friend requests from RMT accounts. Not a single one since early access. Only the number of RMT tells has increased.
