... but I don't think it's very probable. Aside from the fact 3 Ascians have bit the big one at this point (and thus, the remaining ones are more likely to heed Elidibus' words and play a more conservative game), they've also introduced the Warriors of Darkness as our direct antagonists in place of the Ascians.

I was playing in China server, in Chinese the dialog set it very clear. Artoirel told WoL that Haurchefant is his younger brother

Agree, it is sad to lose Haurchefant, but honestly his character is depicted very well and impressive already. /May he rest in peace

I hope they don't bring back Haurchefant in any form either. His death was well done, meaningful, and (brace yourself) in the grand scheme of things probably the best thing they could have done for his character.

Please don't kill me! Here's the thing: We aren't going to be in Ishgard forever. Eventually, we are going to move on. To other city states like Ala Mhigo, and possibly beyond Eorzea itself. Haurchefant was ultimately bound by his duties as a knight of Ishgard, and his post at Camp Dragonhead. If he had lived he would have inevitably slipped out of focus of the greater story once 3.x was done and the MSQ moved on from Ishgard. Aymeric, at least, now seems to be Ishgard's official representative in the Eorzean Alliance, which firmly establishes that he will continue to be relevant in the MSQ long after 3.x had ended. It would be very difficult to set up something similar for Haruchefant, and had he survived he would probably at best have token appearances here and there once we had left Ishgard.

Killing him off rather then submitting him to the inevitable decline in relevancy was the right thing to do for the story in the long run. It would be very awkward for a character like him to have persisted past the Ishgardian storyline, in the the 'we were such close friends and we hardly talk anymore why?' sort of way. And the writers played the death for all it was worth, and I will forever cite it as a storyline death done right.

Well but if he had survived we as the fans could have still visit him if we wanted to and we could have created our own stories about him..but with him death all of this ended. I am just not a fan of the "character`s story told now let them die" way to handle characters. Why would it be so bad if he just had no real meaning to the story anymore? And yes I still don't see his death as that meaningful. The main story would have been told the same way if he was alive and if they had badly injured him they could still had the character development for his brothers. So unlike Ysayle who not only saved our life from certain death (which was not really avoidable in that position) and who was the reason for the garlean ship to strand on Azys Lla and Moen´s death that made it possible to kill one Ascian, the only thing that his death did, was to let us feel sadness and bring tragedy to the MQ. We could and should have easily avoided that attack or defend ourself from it, which would have given Thordan and his knights the time to move away. His death in my opinion was truly not necessary. Maybe that is one of the reason that I still feel so strongly about it.. (And I lost a little more respect towards my own character who stood there like an idiot..)

[Not only did we as the player loose our chance to see him ingame again, but there is even no way for our character to ever meet him again. I mean thanks to SE, who told us through the Scions how the afterlife in this world function we cant even say that our characters will meet him again after death, which I find even sadder]

Sorry for repeating myself about this and hopefully this does not sound to harsh. I just still not over the fact that it happened. (Which is strange since he is not my first favorite character to die in a game)

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

nice to read all this about Haurchefant and brewing theories from the players..
He was and is a very important character to me and I really appreciated everything done for him in 3.1, it made it just a bit easier..

I however do not understand the unveil of the name Greystone, like that is what we have known him as.. and there was never even a mention about it by any character that I saw..
    Just seemed weird..

We'll bring him back to life at the end of the expansion. By that point Emmanellain will have Camp Dragonhead and Artoirel will be Count and Haurchefant will have nowhere to go but with us on mad adventures as a Scion and thus will he stay relevant for the rest of the game.

    ...What?

I don't know if you want Emmanellain to sit on Camp Dragonhead lol, i'm pretty sure after one month he'll have undone all of Haurchefant's hard work lol
But man it would be interesting though, he'd be forced into responsibility

Emmy just has to learn to apply himself. That can be his character arc (or else he would be a figurehead, and the real leaders of the garrison would be Honoroit and Corentiaux)

Emmanallain reminds me of Jannequinard, especially at that age (AST/ 3 in line in the Hallianart family) he means well and want to help his family ... but nobody really ever expected much of him and there isn't much pressure since he's the "third" son. Meaning for all his life Artoirel was groomed to be the successor, Haurchefant was the model knight and was tasked with Camp Dragonhead.

I am pretty sure that House Fortemps have been the social Pariah of Ishgard and most of his friends/ acquaintances have shunned him now that the shock has settled and the other High Houses are scheming and making sense of things.

Also, i don't think Artoirel is scheming or planning to betray the WoL, afterall, people thought Haurchefant (especially the Fortemps)was scheming too due to how we all pictured Ishgard then.

I am curious though, is Artoirel's slight change in personality due to localization? Does he act the same in Japanese/ EU?
