Despite my forum avatar I predominantly play as a female character myself. The campaigning will also help make players with female characters aware of the problem, so if (when?) steps are taken to make more glamour available for male characters we'll have plenty of background information to point to when people start complaining from the other side. I personally like the idea of making the existing female-locked items unisex until the balance is restored, as nobody has to lose anything for that to happen, but I'm also happy with a solution of giving us a new male-only items to even things up. Bunny ears in particular should be something anyone can have as they are useful for all kinds of fun glamours, including festive ones during the springtime. However, if S-E insist on keeping them female-only I would be more than happy with an equivalent male-only 'fun' item - perhaps something like fluffy bear ears.
I'm personally campaigning because I do like to dress my male character up nicely and having fewer items means I have fewer mix-and-match options when constructing glamour sets.
I agree with everything you said, and it is in a much more coherent way than I would have phrased it >.<
There's always gotta be at least one person (of course playing a female character) that rolls up in the thread to whine at us that we're just whining and that this couldn't possibly be a legitimate issue. Serilda actually links a post on the next page that quite nicely sums up just how weighted the options really are. A cursory inspection of the patch notes shows that it's continuing in this patch despite them telling us twice now (the first of which was a few months ago) that the discrepancy will be "addressed in the future."Want some cheese with your whine, guys? This isn't an actual social issue and the glamour options are not nearly as weighted as some people here would like to suggest. Also, please learn to read. the posts says they'll consider the requests, and say they'll make more male gear "in the future", not "in 3.1, as soon as you desire oh merciful masters". So just relax. Though honestly the more of these whiny threads I see the more it seems to be less about glamour and more about men having just as much or more than women even in fiction and the opposite is just outrageous (apparently).
So, what, we're just supposed to sit back and wait while the status quo continues patch after patch? Okay.

As male Miqo'te, I'd say you could! I dunno, I find them to be among the more attractive males. Personally, I felt similar for Cid's outfit when he first ditched his robe. I leveled MCH to 60 just for a pair of forehead goggles, so yeah.
That said, I'd be rather pissed if they'd gender lock nice items just for the sake of "muh quota". Really guys, you can have the bunny suits! Both of them if you like. And the bustier, too. I don't wanna lose out on cool stuff just because I have the option to look like a [censored]. I'd rather give you that option too and partake in the good stuff. Though I'd wager most guys would be as enthusiastic as I about those "options" anyway. Call me a tomcat if you will >_>
Bottom line: My preferred solution is to make everything unisex.
The problem with waiting for the status quo is whose status quo is it? This isn't the first thread where this topic came up. 21 pages of posts and art yet the only official Square post is from a GM asking to keep it civil. 21 pages... in my settings, and I have it set to show the max number of posts per page. Clearly Western status quo has gotten to where only the lividly religious or blind care about this. But as has been mentioned several times in as many threads, the Japanese are considerably more conservative (and decidedly more something else...) on the matter. Still, I'm all for equality of design... now if only they will give me access to some of those male Highlander hairstyles...

Isn't there also a recent thread in the Japanese section that mentions and complains about the inequality regarding the amount of gender-locked gear?
Yep, the protests on the Japanese side of the forums have also attracted attention from the Japanese community managers. This is not just a bunch of westerners complaining into the void, it's an issue which anyone who properly looks at the figures would be concerned about.
The really dumb thing is that the new succubus head piece is unisex and yet succubus are only females wtf? I think square has some sort of alternate reality in which they develop for this game because a lot of things don't make sense at all. Why there isn't a male equivalent to the bunny outfit is beyond me as it would be so simple to design compared to most stuff in the game. As far as bunny ears, it doesn't make sense even using their previous arguments about making gear because it is a head piece and so the body being different is irrelevant.
