New to PvP (Frontlines) and have a few quesitons

Loving PvP atm! Currently rank 27 .

Couple things I would like some advice on:

    1. It seems that almost half of the Frontline matches I am in my party will not have a healer. Would it be a good idea to level one of the healing classes and PvP with them?

    2. I'm currently playing PLD for Frontlines. I know that STR = deeps and VIT = annoying, but from what I have seen is that PLD excels at stun locking and soaking damage. I wanna wear STR to help kill quicker, but at the same time I am feeling that VIT helps with getting to the back line and stunning casters/healers. Which is better for PLDs in Frontlines, STR or VIT accessories?

    3. Is there any up-to-date info on PvP for this game? Like, class guides, tip and tricks, etc.? I have tried googling many times, but it seems everything is almost 1-2 years old.

    4. I've heard that the grind from rank 45-50 is real. Is it possible to get a full left-side pvp-set from ranks 45-50 alone (i.e. can I spend my WMs on random stuff until I hit rank 45)?

Any other information that would be useful I would love to know Thanks for the advice!

If you like playing healer, I'd recommend it, yes. I wouldn't recommend forcing yourself to play one if you don't like the play style (keep in mind healers do NOT have access to Cleric in PvP. They're supposed to "heal only").

That being said, if you want to play one, play whichever healer you're most comfortable on/like the best, they all have their strengths and weaknesses.

It all depends on your play style and your healers. One of my FCmates PvPs as a PLD because he loves stun locking, when I go with him he goes full STR. But in pug parties he will generally start off with 3 VIT/2 STR until he knows how well his healer can handle group fights.

    3. Is there any up-to-date info on PvP for this game? Like, class guides, tip and tricks, etc.? I have tried googling many times, but it seems everything is almost 1-2 years old.
I don't think I've ever seen a class guide, there are quite a few PoVs on YouTube you can watch, however (aside from healers, healers don't get the kills so their footage is "boring" so there aren't many on YT). As for tips and tricks, aside from really basic stuff like "binding/sleeping people before you caster LB helps ensure they take the damage" there probably won't be much. People don't want other GCs copying them, especially when it comes to group co-ordination.

    4. I've heard that the grind from rank 45-50 is real. Is it possible to get a full left-side pvp-set from ranks 45-50 alone (i.e. can I spend my WMs on random stuff until I hit rank 45)?
The grind is very real. I'm at nearly 500 matches and I just hit rank 49 earlier today.

The PvP gear you can buy is made for Wolves Den, the stat Morale does not work in 72-man nor does the Materia (iirc). PvE gear will be fine even at rank 50, unless you are a healer than Field Commander is your BiS because it has both MND and INT (accidentally kill stealing with Assizes on a WHM is hilarious).

You might have to adjust your stats slightly from PvE to PvP (since Accuracy isn't really needed). Seal Rock syncs you to i150 so you can use any gear from i160-i210 to adjust your stats.

[EDIT] http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/Paladin will help you if you're looking to change your armor/accessories (don't worry too much about the numbers or ilevel past i150 as it'll all be synced down! The main focus is looking for substats you want like CRIT/DET/SKSPD/...Parry? Idk how useful Parry is in PvP o.o). This way you won't have to Google item names.

I post PvP announcements and updates on http://pvpreborn.com if you want to check that out. There's a couple introductory guides on there that might help as well. If you have particular questions or need advice, feel free to ask on there too, as there are many experienced players that regularly visit the site that might be able to help you.

Thank you so much for the replies ^_^ I will check out pvpreborn when i get some free time (and maybe sneaka peak at twitch). And thanks for the thorough reply, Selli! Sounds like I can probably pick up my pvp-glam before needing to worry bout getting left side. (BTW, the reason I am putting so much emphasis on left side is because the secondary stats look so much better than any of the PvE gear; minus the crafted PvE but that is near impossible to get.) Thanks again

Healers are the tanks of PVP while tanks are the Annoyers, stunners, inturruptors, whatever.
So I see your set class is Gladiator. If you enjoy tanking, I think you'd enjoy healing specifically in pvp.

There are two reasons for this that I can think of. Healers are easily the most clutch and stressful positions and will make or break the group. Many people don't like this responsibility or simply don't like healing at all. The second reason is healers don't get any progress toward the heavy Kill focused titles and achievements. I know a ton of people who want that Hand of Mercy title. SE could implement some Tank and Healer PvP focused titles. A lot of people will go the extra mile for a line of text above their head, and much much further for a special mount or glamour.

Healers are always appreciated by good players. If you enjoy healing and can handle that position after some practice then go for it.

Also battle highs and fevers power up any "killer" but you can make every single one fighter invincible and yet get no immediate reward. Like pve you are more likely to get mvps in requested roles (i think pve tank=heal>dd while pvp heal>dd=tank), but thats mostly it for pvp. Pve has tank mounts to add

Healers are the most important jobs for any pvp, its always worthwhile having one levelled up. Many times you will face being in a group with no healers present or levelled and it can put such a downer your match.

I'm finding myself having to heal a lot more since joining mael but it can be some real fun

Healing in PvP is arguable the hardest thing to do in this game, the dmg isn't scripted and a burst can hit anyone of your party/alliance so quick reactions are key.

I'm starting to put a few healer PoV on youtube and your welcome to come have a look

It's an extremely stressful game of hide/seek/tankathon ^.^

I play used to play as Pld a lot and recently came back to it (cuz' why not. Gotta change it up sometimes). I stack mostly STR accessories, because I've found that the Pld class is much more diverse in PvP than I had originally thought it was. I used to play purely like you (bait and switch stun-locking, AKA, "The dip and dive"), but now that I've gotten better at holding my own in PvP I know that I was not helping my team as much as I could have been. It's always good to stun-lock an opponent, and I think beginner PvP Pld's should really learn that role so they can effectively trap enemies for their dps team, but once you get good at it you should really start working your advanced game. A full Pld rotation with sword oath (no dmg reduction from shield oath) can demolish people (especially if you're on a cliff and can get the knockback as a finisher. Easy kill). It's completely possible to work a battle high as a Pld. Your natural defenses and Cd's are enough. As long as you don't forget to keep buffs up you really don't need extra Vit (keep in mind that any physical dmg is potentially nerfed by pld's shield as well. Pld has the highest baseline defense against melee dmg. It's why a lot of people don't even bother trying to kill Pld's unless they have a group of dps to help. Use that to your advantage.)

Also, as a Pld you have the unique ability to stand in for a healer if you don't have one. Clemency potency is ridiculous, and pvp is one of the few environments where you can get the cast off without interruptions. Just be careful of your mp. It's expensive.

Also, work your stoneskins. Every chance you get to buff your party while your not in combat should not go to waste. Even if you're in combat, if no one needs healing, make sure you keep up on stoneskins. It takes some practice and you are intentionally removing yourself from the front line when you play like this (no more stun locking/dps'ing if you're busy at the back healing), but you can really keep your team alive if you play your cards right.

As for the grind. Yes, it's real. The exp required between ranks 40-50 is equivalent to to all of the ranks between 1-40, and the last 5 ranks are by far the worst. That being said. I started playing Seize at rank 26-ish, and climbed up to 50 recently. In that time I have bought two complete sets (Tank and Drg - including accessories) and had some left over. Try to never miss a daily roulette bonus and start buying the pieces you want now, even though you can't equip them yet. You'll have more than enough to get what you want later. Marks aren't the grind problem. Exp is... Though they say they're changing that soon.

Paladins are the kind that really cost me more to kill (but only once one of them could kill me alone) have excellent skills with which to resist his shield can also go, as the partner says, with accessories dps. In addition, the tanks in PvP have another role, that of intimidation.

Even two or three DPS will think twice before attacking a tank without help from a healer or another tank. And if they attack a tank can already get good not just give up, if not kill them all (I kill a dragoon and two monks going with my warrior) in your case, with quick stuns, self-healing, invincibility, etc. . The only problem is that if they realize they will not overcome you can run and escape because the ranged DPS of a tank, is not very good. But all this you cuts the enemy helping your fellow dps and healers, which will help enormously in the battles, both defending and attacking.
