New Player Recruitment Perk Redeeming Question

While I understand that you already receive perks from simply using a recruitment code as a newly joining player, is it out of line to ask for any additional help for a fresh beginner, such as some gold? I'm not sure what the economy is like for most people, especially those that are asking for their codes to be redeemed, but starting out, I find myself nearly constantly broke/poor simply trying to keep up with some gear and level some tradecrafts for the similar class.

There are many linkshells and players willing to help players level and get involved in the game.

For the most part, you will not need much gil early on as you will get most of your equipment from class quests as is. Players may however donate equipment to you and you can sell that equipment or use it as you see fit. You can level crafters, but the majority of your mats should be coming from npcs and not the marketboard at low level.

Just out of curiosity, what and where are you spending your gil?

The main storyline should be giving you more than enough gear and gil when combined with dungeon drops and npc vendors at your level. At 20 you shouldn't need to buy anything from market boards.

Edit: How are you leveling crafting? Are you doing guildleves? That is a way to recoup some of the cost and speed up exp gain. I'd also do the daily turn ins under "timers" for your Grand Company. Leveling crafters is a gil sink in general, I'd recommend leveling a gathering class first if you don't want to wait until your battle class is higher.

Early on, while you're still earning gil slowly, I wouldn't suggest buying materials for your crafting. Pick up the gathering classes (BTN and MIN at least) and gather the materials you need to craft with. That way, crafting is free.

As for your equipment, quests will give you pretty decent equipment for the most part. If you want something better and your crafting hasn't caught up to your main level, you can check NPC vendors or the marketboard for upgrades, but don't spend a fortune on gear you're going to outlevel quickly anyway. NPCs sell only normal quality gear, but crafting can produce a High Quality (HQ) version that has better stats and you can usually find that on the Market Board.
(The Normal and High Quality versions of an item are listed together on the MB, but the High Quality ones are marked with a symbol of two crescents conjoined at the bottom: )
Another option is to focus on crafting for a while and get it leveled up far enough that you can make your own High Quality gear. Then that doesn't cost anything either.

You're on Behemoth server as well? I wouldn't mind helping you out. I've got my weaver leveled up to like 46 or so and I would be more than happy to make gear for you as you're leveling.
Once servers are back up, feel free to catch me online and add me
