Retainer level reset question

If I level my retainer as fisher till lvl 50 and then I change class to botanist and level it for a while and then change back to fisher... will the fisher be lvl 50 or will he reset to lvl 1? I know the level resets when you change class to a new one. I'm just wondering if the level is saved like it is for the players? Like can retainers have multiple classes?

The level will reset, unfortunately. You'd have to level up fisher on your retainer all over again.
