The other games are older than dirt, and mostly horrible horrible failures. EQ was awesome, I played it for years. FFXIV also awesome. The rest were flips, excpet a couple that had small cult followings like EQ2 did.

I have to disagree. Most were, but EQ2, and especially CoH were rather fun. CoH is actually my favorite MMORPG ever, even though I'm not a fan of the superhero genre in general. The game just has everything, including a combat system that is more fun than any other MMORPG I've played.

While the game experience has improved dramatically, many of the things that pushed new players away are still there. The 1-20 gameplay could really use some significant improvements, for all classes.

That said, it is not so bad that it would turn away someone who's a veteran of the mmo-genre, who is used to autoattacking things to death for 20 levels before being able to do anything interesting.
