also everyone keeps stating the obvious with the "You havn't actually seen the items or enemies so whats the big deal?" Well the big deal is, what's the point of exploring if you know whats there? There's just...a blatant wrongness about this and people don't see it, or just refuse to admit it and keep on kissing up to the devs for content. Its like a bunch of seagulls just desperate for food they just toss down at you as you topple all over eachother...lol that was mean I apologize. Maybe I am just overestimating or overreacting, but if someone can actually tell me why removing the side options bar would ruin the experience, I'd love to hear you hear you out and change my post to something more sensible to your opinion.
Well I see exploration as roughly being two parts of one whole. You've got the discovery bit, where you find new things, and you have the looking bit which is all the legwork that goes into finding those things. So I think SE's idea was to encourage us to look around the area long after we've already discovered everything, so to speak.

Still, I'm surprised those random enemy names mean anything to you. I already knew there would be monsters, gathering points and such around long before they gave me a list. Nothing's been lost for me. It's a little funny really; it's almost as if SE hands you a map to the Grand Canyon and says, "the view is amazing and you'll see all these animals like this and that and you definitely should go" and you respond, "ugh, roadtrip ruined. Thanks for that".

Without the list, there's just less motivation to take detours really. I don't really see anything gained by it's removal.

How are you even logged in? Did a menu tell you to log in and make this post?
Do you consider obligations a menu? And I think you're kinda jumping the shark.

i'm actually hopeing there will be some fun hidden stuff, like... traps << deadly mobs with fun skills (oh the memories of the charme aoe skill that turns everyone into a frog while we follow the boss around and beat up unsuspecting people...), random chests, that let us use our intelligence and instinct.
my only question is... if we all die.. and theres nobody around to raise... where wll we respawn at? XD
Very good points and I can't deny with you there. Though I hate having my hand held, some actually require that needed push. Oh wells. :/

First, this whole thread is an asinine argument over semantics. If they had called it anything else, you wouldn't have an issue. Your argument is over the name of the feature, not the feature itself.

Second, the objective list is there purely so they can add ESO as an incentive without having to add it to mob kills which could easily be exploited and used to bypass the new expert dungeons. They want players to experience a little bit of everything. Its a great, well thought out compromise.

But how dare they ruin your immersion...

Why can't you make your own obligations then? I mean, you don't have to do any of those things. Nobody is forcing you.

    SWG: After Tutorial
Your thrown into a big open world with no objectives, no goals, a blaster and a Maroj Melon.

That was amazing, the feeling of being immersed into an unknown world. You had to make your own path and your own way and carve your name into it.

They don't make MMOs like that these days unfortunately.

Maybe they should give an option to disable it for people who are so upset by this. They choose to do the check list or go in blind and have to figure out what will give you bonus chests/find hidden chests.

can always just set the HUD settings to not display the duty list before you go in the exploration, ask teh party members to do the same and the whole run will be a surprise. only issue is, you may have to set a timer on the side to keep track of how long you got left in the area.

I believe you can, but I'm willing to bet people are still going to complain that they don't know what to do to get that Esoterics bonus, or that other people in their party refuse to turn it off because they don't share the same opinion.

i know you can, i do it all the time when doing favor items gathering, because the list clusters the area where i click to use the mouse for camera changing. its very annoying to accidently open the duty list journal when you're trying to rush gathering lol.

its just a matter of asking other people if thye want to do it, or if they dont, ask them to not share the list details till after for example, 50 min already gone and nothing on the list done.
from what i seen/heard, i think the objectives on the list will be rather straightforward and something that you will end up just meeting along the way, nothing something you gonna have to actively hunt around for.

Lmao, your right a little lol. Compared to the Grand Canyon it'd seem to be a trivial matter to worry about, though this isn't the Grand Canyon as its a common tourist spot. These new lands they are sending to us are untouched and inhabited by creatures we don't know about. Like how in the world do we know that there's 8 bronze chests just sitting out there? Was it dropped by a flying air ship? -insert funny yoshi p scenario, I'm too tired to do it lol- .

The gain from not having the side bar could be put in an easy example:

Raif: Hey guys I found a chest! XD
Spaghetti: Fricken A! Wait for us, it might be a trap! :U
    Raif: Okay
Scuttlebutt: On my wa-- Oh s%#$ there's a giant monster over here! It saw us!
    Raif: Fly away dude!
Scuttlebutt: It got Dirtnugget man! We need a raise!
Spaghetti: Darn it, ok regroup! Raif, mark the map location and the rest make our way to the monster!

^ When there is no side options (assuming that there is no hidden content)

Spaghetti: Ok first we look for this monster name, Gurrr.... I miss Invader Zim. Ahem anyway all of you scout this area for it while this team go seek gathering nodes.
    everyone: Got it
    Raif: found the first chest!
Spaghetti: Nice! mark that one and move to the next.
    Raif: On it! X)
Scuttlebutt: We found the Gurrr thing!
    Spaghetti: Sweet, engage!
Scuttlebutt: Got it! ....this thing hurts. D:
Spaghetti: Ok we're on our way!

Don't see the difference? The genuine excitement of discovery is taken away when we know what to expect. The side bar of things to find becomes a task without actually being one since we know its there for optional purposes. It may be exciting to find them, but we knew what to expect from the start.
