If there were no side objectives people would have to go and explore yes. But later people whould've posted on the internet the best ways to get the best rewards and in the end, all groups would follow those guidelines. No matter how, people would find some guidelines to follow anyways.

Good point, let me ask you this though. Have you ever played an adventure game and one day later decided, "I'm gonna look up the other things I can find in this game." Like as soon as the game came out? Well two words dude. Experience ruined. 60 dollar (or idk) game experience spoiled in about a week -clap- Maybe not a week per-say, but if you don't like to enjoy your game and savor the contents, the what your left with is the dessert (rewards) and that's ok. I for one, don't want to be spoiled the reward, I'd love to see what awaits in this place, not what I can and how-to get, thats the main dish imo....f%$#ing hungry now.If there were no side objectives people would have to go and explore yes. For those who will eventually post it on the internet, yeah it was bound to hapen, like hunts, they just want their items and worry less about content. Its just how they are and its ok for you to be too. "I'm just not your kind of people" -Garbage (why the band is named that, i don't even know)

Day 1 after trying it:
Week of grinding it later:
- Gathers spoils for wind silks and makes 5mil
- nerf happens a month or so later
- Sees an explosion of people complaining about how Diadem is messed up now because of it.
Welp, the optional objectives thing was completely irrelevant, as indeed it was optional..... but as I exected already the "Exploration" idea was completely shoved under the carpet and turned into a zergfest monster hunt farm anyway. I guess the list itself was a sign of imminent faceplant. Thnx for the previous responses and stuff. Thought this thread would come back to mind after all this happened. :/
To me, exploration means being able to wander around zones without being smacked in the face with invisible walls at nearly every opportunity. (A little off-topic, I know, but there was the question posed... xD)
You have 90 minutes in the map. Take a look at the objective list again and you will see these are very basic objectives which can be done in a short amount of time. Slaying 8 mobs around A mob difficulty, constantly killing bosses to spawn treasure chests, find out one of these "white crystal" thingies and gather 16 items, fish 8 fish.
Say it takes you 30-50 minutes to do all of this, that still leaves 60-40 minutes of just exploring and doing what ever you and your party want to. Go explore if you want to, 90 minutes to clear that simple list is easy, and you only need to complete 3 stuff on it to get rewards.
Reminds me of scavenger hunts. But really, don't think it detracts from the "exploration" for me. I have no idea where most of that is after all, at least not the first time through.
Even when you look at it as an instanced version of hunts, it strikes me as sort of approaching the Monster Hunter series in a way, and I kinda like that.

Yeah I like that too, like alot. Its just the part when they call it exploration that bothers me the most. Take me as a "yearning adventurer". I like to seek more in my experience, yeah it may be a needy concept, but its the main point of exploring, you want to be the one to discover these things.
also everyone keeps stating the obvious with the "You havn't actually seen the items or enemies so whats the big deal?" Well the big deal is, what's the point of exploring if you know whats there? There's just...a blatant wrongness about this and people don't see it, or just refuse to admit it and keep on kissing up to the devs for content. Its like a bunch of seagulls just desperate for food they just toss down at you as you topple all over eachother...lol that was mean I apologize. Maybe I am just overestimating or overreacting, but if someone can actually tell me why removing the side options bar would ruin the experience, I'd love to hear you hear you out and change my post to something more sensible to your opinion.

Well I see exploration as roughly being two parts of one whole. You've got the discovery bit, where you find new things, and you have the looking bit which is all the legwork that goes into finding those things. So I think SE's idea was to encourage us to look around the area long after we've already discovered everything, so to speak.Yeah I like that too, like alot. Still, I'm surprised those random enemy names mean anything to you. I already knew there would be monsters, gathering points and such around long before they gave me a list. Nothing's been lost for me. It's a little funny really; it's almost as if SE hands you a map to the Grand Canyon and says, "the view is amazing and you'll see all these animals like this and that and you definitely should go" and you respond, "ugh, roadtrip ruined. Thanks for that".
Without the list, there's just less motivation to take detours really. I don't really see anything gained by it's removal.

Lmao, your right a little lol. Compared to the Grand Canyon it'd seem to be a trivial matter to worry about, though this isn't the Grand Canyon as its a common tourist spot. These new lands they are sending to us are untouched and inhabited by creatures we don't know about. Like how in the world do we know that there's 8 bronze chests just sitting out there? Was it dropped by a flying air ship? -insert funny yoshi p scenario, I'm too tired to do it lol- .It's a little funny really; it's almost as if SE hands you a map to the Grand Canyon and says, "the view is amazing and you'll see all these animals like this and that and you definitely should go" and you respond, "ugh, roadtrip ruined. The gain from not having the side bar could be put in an easy example:
Raif: Hey guys I found a chest! XD
Spaghetti: Fricken A! Wait for us, it might be a trap! :U
Raif: Okay
Scuttlebutt: On my wa-- Oh s%#$ there's a giant monster over here! It saw us!
Raif: Fly away dude!
Scuttlebutt: It got Dirtnugget man! We need a raise!
Spaghetti: Darn it, ok regroup! Raif, mark the map location and the rest make our way to the monster!
^ When there is no side options (assuming that there is no hidden content)
Spaghetti: Ok first we look for this monster name, Gurrr.... I miss Invader Zim. Ahem anyway all of you scout this area for it while this team go seek gathering nodes.
everyone: Got it
Raif: found the first chest!
Spaghetti: Nice! mark that one and move to the next.
Raif: On it! X)
Scuttlebutt: We found the Gurrr thing!
Spaghetti: Sweet, engage!
Scuttlebutt: Got it! ....this thing hurts. D:
Spaghetti: Ok we're on our way!
Don't see the difference? The genuine excitement of discovery is taken away when we know what to expect. The side bar of things to find becomes a task without actually being one since we know its there for optional purposes. It may be exciting to find them, but we knew what to expect from the start.
