    Fishing Brainstorming: New Ideas & Additions

    I think it would be great to get a thread going about what would be excellent as additions to fishing. See what the community can come up with for ideas. I know there are tons of problems to be addressed before new things such as this would be added, but its always good for morale to discuss exciting new ideas, even if they don't end up in the game.

    Regional Ferries: I would love to see regional Ferries. A ferry in every Major Zone (La Noscea, Thanalan, Black Shroud, Mor Dhona, Coerthas). My thoughts on this is you would go to a dock area in the region and talk to the Ferrymaster. At this point they would offer you the chance to go on a regional 'cruise' down rivers, out into the ocean, on lakes.. You know a different area based on region. There would be a small fee and you could choose length of trip. Basically you would then be sailed down the instance.

    I am thinking 100gil per 10 minutes. There would be the option of 10, 30, 60 minute fishing trips. Each of these ferries would have 8 fish types total. 6 Fish from other areas and 2 exclusive to fishing off that specific regional ferry. Each time a new zone is added a new fish would be added.

    Net Fishing: Fishing parties would be excellent. I know there are tons of things that could be done for this, but specifically I am thinking ocean fishing where you get several fisher players holding a net, jigging this way and that to not lose control of the net. That could be fun.

    Ice Fishing: I really can't wait to see a snow/winter area added to the game. I think ice fishing would be an excellent addition to that.

    NM Monster Baiting: How awesome would it be if they added Ultros as a NM to the ocean? You would need several fishers on the boat of appropriate rank to attract him. Fishers would get some sort of skill specific to assisting in the battle with the NM, or maybe just make Rock Throw target certain areas of the body so that fishers would be useful during the battle as well. The rock throw could be used to disable a devastating AOE.

    Your definitely on to something here. Im all for Ice fishing (in RL too). The implementation of a cast net (see link) would be a very cool feature. Also fly fishing would be an amazing addition, I love fly fishing, it truly is an art. The NM idea has some potential for sure

    I really like your ideas for fishing and think they should be looked into. Especially the net and ice fishing, however all are great ideas.

    I LOVE you NM idea! But I would also like to see the ability to fish up regular mobs. I know this would be tricky, and a feature not everyone would be interested in, so I propose the following:

    -Monsters that are "fished up" give SP to fisher class only.
    -Monsters are pulled up with certain bait or lures only (Maybe the wrong bait for the area, like chocobo lures in salt water)
    -Monsters are easy enough to kills as fisher class, but will still pose a challenge.
    -Maybe the ability to use off-hand as weapon?

    Nice concept for the NM's

    Perhaps a Fisher could charter/rent a boat with a party.
    Leading to an instance where the fisher would need to haul in a mob (It could be a regular mob "Sea Snake", or it may be the NM "Ultros/Orthros") and then the party needs to battle it.
    The would be a limit to the number of times a party could try to 'Catch the Big One' (Perhaps a limited amount of bait required could be supplied with the rental of the boat)
    Fisher could have a net equipped as an off hand weapon and use it to temporarily disable the mob/MN allowing the party to conduct attacks.

    Another thought as far as NM Baiting goes is you could have an additional NM (Added overtime) that loves fish. The attraction method would require fishers to be on the field dropping fish in various locations. Fishers would get some sort of ability that made it so only they could determine where to place the fish and to interact with said node. After doing this for a time the NM would spawn and fishers would then join in with rock throw, which would do like 1 damage if thrown randomly, but if they positioned themselves on the proper side of the body they would do much more damage and target and disable that portion of the body.

    Similar system could be implemented for Botanist and Miner. A botanist could be lumberjacking and it awakens a corrupted Treant or a Miner could be mining and that piece of ore he breaks off actually ends up being a part ofhhh gargantuan Doblyn!

    I love fishing like I said in the other post. I want to comment on the grade pools they have out there. if anyone can enlighten me more about the current system I am all ears. Unlike some of the trolls on this forum my quest is for knowledge not ego.

    I find the some of the higher grade pools to be pragmatic at best for fishers of lower rank. Now, I am not sure exactly how the system works, but one would imply based on grade will determine which fish can be caught. But as I experiment more for new fishing spots, I find some grade 8-10 yield lower level fish (i'm level 30), but others near my rank like 5-6 yield very little possibly due to my rank. I would advocate for a more consistent way of providing more ways and places to catch target fish. We fishermen tend to stick to places where we know we can maximize our harvests, but I'd love to be able to have spots where all fish can be caught regardless of the rank. Kind of like rank 9 will yield fish rank 90 and below. Fishing in Uldah and the underlying areas are meh.

    If someone can enlighten me as to the why I am having inconsistencies, I have open ears. Otherwise add it to the wish list.

    Also, on the fly bait switch without canceling the fishing engine would be nice so I don't lose my Veteran's trade in effect if I happen to run out of bait. Thank you^^
