The everyday login reward isn't exactly the only method to get the event items, but just extra stuff you can get that you can already get from the actual event.
It usually goes that way.
I've never heard of the requirements being an hour, though. It's usually 15 minutes (well, from the MMOs I've played).

I went with an hour in the example because it's easy to calculate. I'm bad at math and way too lazy to calculate with 15 min over the course of several days xD
The actual amount of time doesn't matter anyway, I'm talking about the CONCEPT of being forced to do an event at a certain pace (one step per day and don't you dare miss one!) instead of letting the player decide how to split up the event like he wants to, including the option to not log in at all except for one day and then grind through everything in that one day, from morning to night.
