Horrible Behavior Towards Newbie in DF

    Hey guys,

I'd like to vent a little about something that happened this morning / yesterday night. Around 4am GMT I was a little bored and queued up for Main Scenario Roulette as SCH since healer was needed at the time. I got in relatively quickly and when the duty commenced, the system let us know that we had one or more new players. One of the tanks was watching the cutscene, so I'm assuming that was our Newbie.

As we went through the duty, the other tank (geared mostly with i200+ gear) kept rushing through the whole thing so quickly that I could barely keep up even though I automatically skip all cutscenes and have a very fast computer and connection. By the time we entered the Magitek suits, only him and me were left of the party while the rest were scrambling to keep up and the Newbie was still watching a cutscene (at the speed we were going I'm assuming he just went from one scene right into the next). Despite this, the tank kept pulling immediately as we arrived, resulting in us starting the first fight no the elevator thingie with 4 people. At this point, others in the party had started complaining and telling him to slow down, which he ignored.

We killed the chain of bosses until we arrived at the very last boss (the Newbie was STILL watching cutscenes, as we were going through the duty so fast, that he was probably just bombarded with one scene after another). As soon as the rushing tank saw that the other tank was still watching a cutscene he started a vote kick on the new guy with the reasoning "AFK" and to my astonishment the party voted to kick the Newbie a few seconds before we finished and received the bonus reward for having "helped" a Newbie. I was rather ticked off at this point and asked the party if they were serious with this behavior. When the boss died, the tank who had been rushing through the entire duty said "You should be happy you got carried!" and left.

Now, I wrote down the name of the tank in case I see him again and I have the name of the other healer in the party as well, who was just as amazed as me. But unfortunately, I failed to write down the name of the Newbie. I know the chance of him / her ever reading this is very low, but I would still like to apologize for what happened. At the same time, I would like to ask the more senior players if you have ever encountered something like this and what you would do in such a situation. Up to this point, I had always felt that the community in this game and especially on my server (Odin) was a really awesome bunch so I'm pretty damn shocked.

    Greetings

    Pria

You kind of helped fuel the fire since you were the healer that kept up with him. If you had of let him die as he charged ahead past everyone, by the time he got back everyone would have been able to catch up. Thats what I would have done.

Everyone rushes the old MSQ because they have done it too many times to count. But your right that gives them no right to just speed past everything without group communication.

A common enough story for MSQ roulette, unfortunately. I don't think they're going to change the previous dungeons but you can see they did incorporate the feedback into newer dungeons' designs. There's typically barriers that require the mobs before them to be killed, and cutscenes now happen when you click the dungeon exit. There's one notable exception to that in HW, seems they couldn't keep cutscenes entirely out of the Lv60 story dungeon, but there's just one and that's it.

The worst part is kicking the newbie...

I didn't even think about letting the guy die, that's a good idea of course.

Alas, what ticked me off wasn't the tank watching the cut scenes, not even the party rushing through the content (I'm guilty of that myself a lot of the time). What I absolutely can't fathom is, how anybody could kick that poor new guy for being afk when he was just watching the cutscenes and it's really no issue for the party to finish the duty with 7 people while he enjoys the story. If anything, the new guy should be mad at us for not letting him participate in the content.

I always felt that how newbies got treated in the story roulette was incredibly rude, but actually kicking him right before the end has to be the most dickish behaviour I've heard of so far..u.u°
And yeah, you should have just let them die. But sadly, the ability to do that is fairly limited these days. My tank is far from ilvl 200 equipment, and yet I don't really need heals as DRK and WAR for something like MSQ roulette trash.

In my opinion, since this is an issue that is related in the two main story dungeons, how about changing so anyone that is doing the dungeon for the first time cannot be kicked.

By the odd chance that one of the new persons decides to be a troll or go afk there is still a tank, healer and/or 3 dps that can continue the dungeon.

Also reporting what happened is a good idea cause SE is well aware of the issue and will most likely look up what happened and punish them.

That kind of behavior is/was appalling. and should be policed and punished, but sadly I have no suggestions as to how.

I wont be surprised if that new player doesn't continue their sub. I'd be really disheartened if that happened to me on my first time through something.

Everyone speeds through that dungeon, right or wrong, it's how it is. More than likely had this healer let him die, he would have been the first one kicked off the island. This is not his fault at all. And booting a new player for watching CSs? That's horrible.

MSQ roulette is just a cesspool of strange and bad. It got out of hand when it was a decent method of getting the lower rank tomes in 2.X, and now people continue to spam it despite being able to earn far more xp from fates or level appropriate dungeons. I've met some people that are so hung up on spamming MSQ roulette and hard 2.0 primals, that they never progress far enough in 2.X story to unlock Snowcloak. Of course a dungeon series with absolutely no challenge (designed for ilevel 50, consists entirely now of people in ilevel 90+) will end up filling with the worst type of people.

My advice for all newbies is to find one or two level 60 players to run you through it at your own pace for the story, and then not bother with that series of dungeons again. I've essentially soloed both dungeons for newbie friends as a warrior, so it really doesn't take much.

Of course, newbies probably won't be reading the forums. So... if you encounter someone around that level in your travels, and want to be as helpful as you are empathetic on the forums, then just run them through the content and smash Gaius's teeth in single-handedly.
