Thurmaturge/ Black Mage Gear

Alright so this might seem like an odd question but here goes. I started playing with a friend of mine about 2 weeks ago. he chose to go paladin I chose black mage. We are both lvl 32. I am finding it incredibly hard to find gear that looks goods. While my Paly buddy is running around looking like a mini bad ass. So can I get some tips on where to find nice gear for my toon. Brayflox' Longstop has a very good-looking (and also stat-wise good!) mage set. Should be for lvl 32, so just right for you
Other than that...mh, it's kind of a waste to try and get+glamour pretty gear on low-lvl equipment because you outgear it so fast.

There is a lot of pretty stuff for lvl 50 and up, so start worrying about your appearance by then? :x

Yeah I just got done running that one for the quest line and nothing but disciple of war stuff dropped....lol But I kinda figured that would be the way it was. Thanks for the reply though I really appreciate it!

I think the Acolyte stuff from copperbell is pretty badass, but it's going to be lower level so you'd have to glamour it

Tanks do get pretty cool gear, as a BLM main I feel like casters almost always get the short straw looks-wise, but that might just be the grass looking greener on the other side of the fence.

I don't think glamours unlock till lvl 50.

Yeah basically though most of the good sets lvling seem to be dungeon drops. Of course, that's subjective but that's my opinion. You will start finding nicer sets as you get a bit higher though particularly as you get above 45.

Also, there are very few good sets for mages until 40 and 45. Brayflox drops a very nice set at your level, and you can get a bliaud from the lv.38 optional dungeon if you want too.

You can check your grand company for clothes that suit you. They are generally the best gear you will find at those levels. You do spend seals, but seals are relatively easy to get, especially if you do craft turn-ins.

Also be aware the full robe (the ugly one) takes up two slots: body AND head. So when the game compares it, it is only comparing the single body OR head piece against the combined stats of a body AND head piece. It means you have to add the total defense up yourself to see if it's a better replacement. Otherwise you will always see a drop in defense until you get to level 45 or 50.

Your best bet is to try running Brayflox again a few times and hope for better luck in the treasure drops. (Do a Google image search for "FFXIV battlemage set" to see what you can get there when you get the good drops.) Until reaching 50 and unlocking glamour you're kind of stuck with the look of whatever gear gives you the best stats, so re-running the dungeons that drop gear giving both good looks and good stats together is the way to look good. And the Battlemage stats are good enough to last you for quite a few levels.

I was just complaining about this the other day! lol My main class is a level 60 summoner and now I'm leveling up as a black mage, and man... the gear just sucks. I got tired of running around looking like either a sorry matador or a harlequin clown. And don't even get me started on the level 30 mage robes. Thank god for glamours!
