Sooo... for my two favorites: (I try to take weapons and playstyle into account)

    FFX

Tidus - probadly a ninja, I'd say: fast, mobile, using a blade (I'm sorry, but I disagree with him being an archer :P even though hes got a very fine hit-rate aswell)
Wakka - archer: applying various status-effects on monsters (first moves he learns if you follow his path), being ranged, having a very good hit-rate
Auron - DRK: one handed sword, heavy attacks while also a good pool of HP. Hes also the first one to learn some "cover"-spell, which would make him a paladin... but... naaaah... he doesnt seem like one so I identify this as a tank-ability
Kimahri - DRG: spear, jump, you dont want him in your party (sorry, had to make this joke xD actually its pretty clear though that hes a dragoon/bluemage - but since we dont have a bluemage yet...)
Lulu - easy, shes a BLM
Yuna - bit though... shes a SMN/WHM - clearly shes the healer in your party, learns all that nice, stronge healing-spells (and holy!) but can also summon aoens... you can even compare them to our egis I suppose... so: shes job switching and leveled two jobs! (And yes, she can do that mid-fight!)
Rikku - either a ninja or a monk - I would go for ninja: very fast&stealing abilities. True, she got fists as weapons but I can easly imagine her with two blades aswell... taking into account that shes technically trained she might be a MCN too (even though I'm totally unsure about this, since I havent played MCN yet)

FFIV (this is a lot easier!)

Cecil - hes a paladin - the paladin: sword&shield, cover, low level white magic (and ofc: DRK in the beginnig... its even called that)
Kain - dragoon - nough said, I suppose? I mean - our dragoon armor was modelled after him xD
Rosa - ofc, the lady is a whm...
Rydia - SMN - we can discuss that she was an arcanist early in the story and picked up her soul crystal later
Edge - Ninja, if you know the game no discussionen needed... two blades, ninjutsu, being called that...
    Yang - Monk
Tellah - hes a bit of an exception since he knows mostly every spell ingame (but doesnt has the MP to use them...) - maybe a BLM who doesnt knows about his stances...? Or a WHM whos constantly running ooM? I would say: hes a BLM for me since I'm always using him like one...
Palom - (might be called differently in english?): hes the little BLM, done
Porom - (again, maybe different name): Paloms twin-sister, shes a WHM
Cid - a warrior, decent HP and his hammer isnt to far away from an axe, right?
FuSoYa - again, bit tricky... if I remember correctly he was able to cast black&white magic alike... so... BLM again?
Edward - hes a bard (and probadly the reason why no one likes bards now...)

Also, as a sidenote for FFII - would have loved to make such a chart for that game too! But since every character in there can become what he wants thats a bit off-limits. Same goes for FFIII and FFV - both are having a jobsystem, so its up to you which job each of your characters is mastering... for FFI such a chart is useless aswell since you're picking your characters based on their class.

I want to add to this that Rikku is primarily a chemist (not a job in this game, but is a job in the series) as her overdrive is mix, and she specialises in using items, but you are along the right lines of ROG/NIN as she steals things (ROG being this games thief) and uses fast attacks.

Also Rosa is stated as being an White mage AND Archer

though lets try this for FFVI (quite easy as a lot are already given jobs)

    Terra - BLM
    Locke - ROG
    Edgar - MCH
    Sabin - MNK
Cyan - Samurai (but as its not in the game, I would have to reluctantly have to give it to DRK for playstyle)
Gau - Blue mage (nothing else fits)
    Celes - PLD
Setzer - Gambler (the closest to RNG this game gets is MCH)
    Shadow - NIN
Strago - Blue mage (nothing else fits)
Mog - Dancer (though BRD might fit)
    Umaro - WAR

    uncategorisable
Relm - Pictomancer apparently, doesn't relate to this game at all
    Gogo - Mime, same thing

Tellah is a Sage. The job appeared in FFIII as an ultimate mage able to use both white and black magic at their maximum level but with a limited MP pool.

    Same goes for FuSoYa.

To answer the OP : Almost every character in past FF games officially had a job (Only I, III and V don't, II's characters can do anything but background-wise and base stat-wise they have a job), but we don't have nearly all of these jobs in FFXIV yet (and we probably won't have them ALL).

I know that - but I was trying to find jobs within FFXIV to fit them best xD (I can see why we dont have a Sage in FFXIV...)
