I'm fairly certain that everything that has been throw into this game is either of their own design, FF11/DQ made. or are recurring themes and names from previous Final Fantasy Games (Chocobos and Moogles). Could you elaborate on what you are referring to?
It should be noted that while some of them are reoccurring themes, some are not. And reoccuring themes ARE in themselves fan service. These ideas aren't mutually exclusive. For instance FFvi Magitek armors (FFVI iteration/copy) Bismark (who's only real appearance outside of XIV is in VI aside from some lore refernces and a notirious monster name in XI). the heart staff in gold saucer, the entire gold saucer and its theme music. Crystal tower/world of darkness. Magitek mount music, battle on big bridge and it's theme song, cloud armor, baron circlet and helmet. Kane minion. Materia (which outside of the VII universe doesn't really appear but this is also arguably a reoccurring theme.
There are a bunch more but ultimately it will lead to semantic discussion about which things are and are not reoccurring themes and which are not. For the sake of conversation I would consider them things which have been present in most if not all cannon final fantasy titles. Like chocobos.
In the same line something can be both a reoccurring theme and fan service if it is indicative of a specific version of a reoccurring theme.
I personally would like to see more orginal things myself. Ravana was an excellent start and more stuff along these lines would be great. But I don't mind throwback stuff either.
