Popular threads and topics tend to be predictable on this forum, be it in a good way or a bad way. I think it's because there is only a small amount of active posters here. Once you have read a thread on a certain subject, you have read them all.

In your opening post you didn't really take into account the possibility that neither side of a matter is 'in the right'. Gameplay related suggestions can have cons as well as pros, and for all opinions there are obviously opposing opinions. People can disagree with a post without having an agenda like you implied in the second paragraph. Unless a statement is verifiably true, it can be dismissed at will. So when the op consists of anecdotes, opinions, personal tastes, generalizations or crude assumptions, it's likely to turn into a juicy debate.

But that's ok! The purpose of a forum is to have discussions, isn't it? To bring forth your view on matters and possibly change someone else's. To answer your question, in my opinion there are no bad topics of discussion, only bad threads. Like the echo chambers without any actual discussion. Or the waste yards of personal attacks and straw men. Or the courtrooms where anyone who dares to disagree with the majority is sentenced to be ridiculed. On the other hand, the threads where all sides are heard and points are constructively criticized are a joy to read and take part in.
