You see this a lot. People take to the forums to complain about other people breaking the TOS or harassment but they're not even attempting to go through the process and letting the system work. The GM team exists, I've talked to several of them when I've had problems with other players, but they can't help you if you don't submit a ticket to them. GMs can't be everywhere and they can't see everything themselves. You have to tell them when you're having a problem with another player, especially when the in-game tools you have aren't enough to make that problem go away.
Or they could implement a convenient feature that many other games have, and at the same time, alleviate the number of incoming tickets their GMs get related to player harassment.

I honestly can't even fathom why anyone would be against this as it has no negative effect on anyone else unless you're the type of person that the OP would be wanting to block in the first place.

The games that people have given as examples are 100% instances. FFXIV heavily uses instances but there is some open world content, so making players invisible actually does present something of a logistical problem.

And, to me, it just seems like a pointless use of developer resources. Maybe what SE could add is that emote motions aren't displayed if the source is blacklisted, as that closes out pretty much the last avenue for harassment.

I'd rather they spend their time on content than waste it on something so trivial as this, personally. Or robust RMT spam filtering.

Well ... I'm glad there isn't a hide blacklisted character. You see I once blacklisted a char in my FC on accident, his chat probably got under my mouse while blacklisting an annoying goldseller.
Anyway took me a few days until I found out in front of our FC house that I couldn't communicate or send him a trade until I wanted to send him an invite and got in this awkward "oops, how did this happen?" moment.

You need to be able to blacklist people across servers to.

I've left servers before because blacklisting wasn't enough to keep them away. Left to find some peace and ended up getting that very same person in my roulette; only this time, I didn't have the blacklist to prevent them from talking to me. Ended up leaving the dungeon because of it. "Reported it, didn't have enough evidence according to the GM to warrant any action."

If you report a person for just showing up in a party after you blacklisted them, then of course the GMs are going to say there's nothing they can do. Unless the person actually did something other than showing up, they aren't breaking any rules.

Or you could read on in the thread where it's clearly explained why this is less simple than you seem to think it is.

    Just a thought.

Why are people even opposed to this? If you blacklist someone, they're blacklisted for a reason, for what reason would you need to see their character?

I support, simply because I don't see any reason why not. Difficultly of implementing it is a different story altogether and isn't a reason not to want such a feature.

One of the dumbest ideas I've seen here in a good while. This forum never ceases to amuse me. Gotta love all the people who claim anyone who even slightly opposes a feature like this is a horrible person (something seen a ton on this forum) and has never been bullied before. Perfect example of this here:

Real mature. "If you aren't with us, you're against us" is such a crap attitude to have.

What I found especially amusing was the comment about not wanting blacklisted people to buy your crafted items, I got a good laugh out of that. I honestly feel sorry for anyone so hypersensitive and petty as that. I do wonder how anyone who lets what is really just a bunch of pixels on a screen (as blacklisting cuts off all communication from them) bother them to this extent can survive in the real world.

Grow a thicker skin and deal with it. Report and move on. Or do you actually want people who are trying to bother you to continue to get enjoyment out of it by reacting to what little they can do (or even just existing in the same digital space) once you've blacklisted them? Someone trying to bully or troll you is looking for a reaction; deny them any reaction and you deny them any satisfaction of their efforts, and they will get bored and stop.

(Note: I mean "you" in a general sense, not you in particular.)

I agree that the "millennials" mention was completely off the mark, though. As that particular topic always is.
No offense, however that makes no sense. In this particular instance, the person was purposely griefing an RP we were having by emote spamming and using flashy abilities. In what manner is getting annoyed by someone interrupting us deemed "you need a thicker skin?" Sure, we did ignore him, but that isn't the point. This isn't tumblr, where something as little as proper capitalization (or lack thereof) can "trigger" someone. Basically, you're saying people shouldn't get annoyed at all.

Growing a thicker skin means being unable to handle criticism or getting offended over someone calling you stupid on the Internet. It shouldn't be carte blanche.

If they constantly harass you, even if you block them, they can technically still bother the crap out of you. (i.e. Emote spam around you constantly; stand around you doing questionable things, etc). Even reporting, depending on the back log of tickets, can take a while before the GM's can get to your situation. Even growing a thicker skin doesn't stop people from being complete a-holes. It's not being super oversensitive. There are situations that happen that go way out of line. SE should make the block feature better. It'll be nice to have.

    And no, people opposed to this have opinions too, but I wouldn't go out my way to block someone just for expressing their thoughts on a subject like this. Sure, I may not agree with all the posters in this thread, but I'm not be like "OMG Y U NO AGREE WITH ME?!?!? BLOCKED!" That's just not right. >->;;
