It comes down to WHM being better at burst DPS and SCH being better at sustained. SCH have more DoTs, better MP management and also a pet that can heal while they DPS. In longer fights that will always be preferred as the main DPSer because they simply have the better tools to do it. As a WHM, you can still look for opportunities to DPS, but only if you can fulfill your healing requirements first.

A2S is a great example where WHM DPS shines.

Ehhhh, I dunno. I think the person you quoted had it closer to the truth. The biggest difference between WHM and SCH's kits is the fact that SCH has stronger tools for mana management. WHM puts up good damage over short bursts, but can't sustain and recover the way SCH can so it takes more planning. Both of them can do great AoE damage but Holy runs you out of mana very fast when you compare to SCH's DoT/Bane. If WHM had the kind of sustainability that SCH does, they'd be utterly broken in AoE damage situations. :3
