why is sentinel gear able to have materia?

I would like to understand the favoritism towards being able to affix materia to the sentinel gear as opposed to merc/sipaphi/sorc and other rare/ex gear, also being said, why is the sentinel gear not rare/ex?

There have been a number of times I end up helping people farm coffers for gear and yet when we get to sentinel its normally the same but without the rare/ex modification, we found members of our party ended up selling the gear which they claimed to oh so need. I find this very frustrating to exclude gladiators and mrd from being honest when it comes to gear drops and also the exclusive boost to gear modifications because their set is not deemed rare/ex.

I honestly have the same question. When I saw you couldn't slot materia to Sipahi (my main is PGL) I was like "oh well. I guess you can't for any of the coffer sets." but then I saw a GLA that had Sentinel's Gauntlet's with materia on them so I automatically went to see if the other gear sets got modified in some patch to allow it... just to see that it's Sentinel only.

It seems completely ridiculous to make it so only 1 of the 4 (It is 4 right? Sentinel/Mercenary/Sorcerer/Sipahi?) able to have materia slotted. I wonder if that'll get addressed any time soon.

I have the same question too... I don't really understand the choice being made here unless it is a mistake that is going to be addressed (though it could have been addressed a while ago since the patch has been out for some weeks now).

That awkward moment when the 1.19a hotfix addresses this and you lose any materia you slotted to Sentinel pieces.

...or they suddenly make the other 3 sets able to have materia slotted to them. That's be pretty pro.
