Bad player etiquette or market board harassment?

Last night before I logged out I was looking through random things I have put up for sale on the mb and noticed the category for Chilled Red was not so chill at all. A player had locked out another player as well as myself from attempting to even sell our items. I checked out the sales for it and this player still has 33 hits ranging from 9,000 Gil to 35,000 Gil.

My questions are how is that even allowed in game? And is this some short or harassment or just bad etiquette? Since it doesn't seem like the player is even trying to make a profit more so saying that they can destroy this sale category out of pure spite or boredness.

    "free mar·ket
    noun
an economic system in which prices are determined by unrestricted competition between privately owned businesses."

"privately owned businesses" in this case being the players.

A guy puts items up on the marketboard.... Where's the harassment? Or the bad etiquette, for that matter?

Players are allowed to sell for any price they want, so that's why the game allows it.

Maybe they just wanted a quick sale and/or didn't have to pay anything for the items in the first place (perhaps retainers bought them back) or perhaps they're just taking up inventory space and they just wanted to get rid of them for any money at all.

We don't really know, but they're allowed to sell for whatever price they want to. If you think they're worth more you're of course welcome to buy the items and try and resell at a higher price.

I'm seeing mass liquidations on Sarg over various markets at least once a week and my instinct tells me it's another FC theft. I know how long it takes to gather certain things and I know when one person has not gathered what they are selling in large volume.

For me, undercutting overpriced items, which SE should have never let Humans control it, is the way to go.

Millions of Gil for stuff that everyone eventually could get/make, for me it's >.< (and some people who are not lucky with drop could resort to RMT just so they can get their hands on them.)

Judging how the real world economy controlled by humans is.. they should have made it just like their solo games.

You can sell stuff to NPCs.

But then again, crafters and gatherers, and luckiers would not be happy.

So yeah, SE should put a maximum limit on items; then people wouldn't go overboard with undercutting and as you mentionned, OP.

To me, overpricing is bad etiquette

It's not even been just lowly housing items, I seen a player lock out the entire company tabard category by selling from 200k to 700k in one night and on my server that item was going for no less then 900k. The cost of dusk leather alone cost more verses what this player was selling the tabard for.

well... for FC theft to happen, you need to give said person access to the FC chest. There's a reason there's a ranking system. Only those you trust should be able to take from it. Otherwise, just make the newer members ask a higher ranked member for something if they need it. Also forces newer members to interact with the FC.

As for the etiquette, the scenario you are speaking of isn't that bad of a situation. Just sell cheaper or buy out some of it. Or wait and see if he gets bought out and then you can go back later when it seems more profitable. I've bought out low selling items before and then put them back up at a higher price (like when people drop MB prices from 1000 down to 9 in one fell swoop with high quality items). Nothing wrong with taking advantage of the opportunity if they aren't paying attention. I especially love when I see someone selling an item for less than you can sell the item to vendors. I always buy those regardless. They get the item out of their inventory and I get more money than I spent. Sure, 1 gil ain't much, but it adds up when they stack it or you find multiple instances of this. Sometimes it only takes a week of holding onto it as well for the price to go up and you can make quite the profit.

As a side note, if I notice someone selling things for ridiculous prices, I usually look for said item and gather it. Then sell it for a reasonable price. There's a lot of profit in doing that since there are other's who don't want to pay those prices either. And if the person locking everyone out buys it... well, you still made a profit :P
