Camera, Character, & more spin (etc.) out of control

    Hey!

I play on PC (windows 7), 64 bit pro.
Used to use default PS3 controller. Now I use Power A Xbox 360 controller.

Ever since I started the game (back in... December 2014, maybe), I've had issues with losing control of my avatar (he'll either run in circles or run straight ahead into anything, be it walls or mobs), my camera spinning out of control (and sometimes logging in zoomed all the way into the ground), and my crossbar freezing (while avatar also gets stuck).

I used to think it was my controller but it's doing the same thing with a new controller.

    I have...
    • Lowered my graphic settings
    • Calibrated controller (had to do this all the time with PS3)
    • Swapped type of controller (PS3 to Xbox)
    • My Xbox driver is 64 bit, too
    • Gotten rid of my camera keyboard keybinds
    • Closed/logged out of all other windows while running FFXIV
    • Made it so I couldn't use my mouse outside of the game window while gaming
    • And I think that's it.

Any idea as to what's causing this and how I can fix it?

    Thanks for reading!

I have no idea how to solve this.

I am not sure if it is the same Issue but I do have an issue with controller becoming unresponsive for 2 times in a row for a couple seconds each, in which the timing feels relatively random. Causing situations where if I was running it just keeps running, or situations like if I was spinning the camera it will keep spinning etc... like yours.

    Interesting. Wonder what's causing it?

Yeah, sounds right. Although for me, it doesn't seem to have a pattern (happening two times in immediate succession) like yours. Sometimes it'll happen several times every few minutes, or in succession like yours, and sometimes spread out throughout my gameplay (2+hours). Wondering if it's something that gets worse over time? Don't remember how frequent it was when I first started out.

Just had a day or two without the spinning! But it's back to spinning, lol

    Thanks for responding, Imoen!

This started happening to my GF last night too. She plays on a PS3, and it had nothing to do with the autorun command (holding L1). Camera spun around a couple times, or her character would run in circles during a duty. Restarting the PS3 seemed to fix it for now, but seems to be happening at random (just started this week, she's been playing on it for about 3 months).

I have been trying to solve this issue for years and have tried dozens of hardware and software solutions including replacing my USB ports, using different controllers, reinstalling Windows clean, editing the registry, updating the bios and USB controller drivers, power settings, etc. I just can't use the Xbox controllers I love with this game any more. It with randomly jam and there's nothing I can do about it.

That's odd. I suppose it'd be one thing if it afflicted only PC users (hardware), but it effects PS3 users, too? (How about PS4 users?) Perhaps it has nothing to do with our gaming hardware after all, and is actually provoked by our internet (hence why some PC users don't have the same issue)? I heard PS3s also have terrible lag, and I personally have issues with internet due to location, so it could... fit?

Honestly, I don't have enough knowledge of those things to theorise.

Should probably experiment to see if using the keyboard stirs up the same problems? But, ugh... Keyboarding... my fingers don't like it, haha.

Are you using the controller wired or wireless?

I'm currently using a wired Xbox controller (Power A - third party, mini pro ex) that works fantastic. Happened with my wireless (albeit connected by a cable - came with the PS3 console) PS3 controller as well.

Considered it might still be happening due to it being a third party controller, but I love it way too much to return it and possibly find out that such isn't the case.
Sorry for lengthy reply. Figured more information is... better?

Hmm odd I get latency issues like you descride when using a controller on wireless but wired is fine.

Are you using any software for the controller?

Was going to say before I saw it was a controller that the spinning often happens when the mouse sensor gets dirty or out of balance somehow. Shaking it fixes it usually.

    Maybe related?
