I'd rather see the Wyvern as a chocobo-like Companion at best, an minion at least, and not as a DRG-tied pet.

Because you think 's is the plural when it's actually the possessive form.
But we do have a wyvern minion. It's called Midgardsormr and you get it in 2.4-2.5? So many people seem to have forgotten this... happens in the quest that unlocks the Keeper of the Lake dungeon.
I listened to the story but I still think it's a pitiful excuse. The dragons make no attempt to see things through the eyes of other races. The fact that they won't even try to understand them makes me less sympathetic to them. It's actually quite childish. Most adult human beings can understand why others may think the things they do and can see things through others perspective while disagreeing with them at the same time. Not sure if you've listend to the dragons during the storyline at all... they're getting much older than humans therefor they do not forget and forgive that easly because they dont have the same... "feeling" for time as we have. The lifetime of a human is a second for them - would you forgive the murder of your sister two days after she was tricked, killed and eaten? Would you then be like "oh, I've got this nephew here - may you take care of him and probadly hunt her husband down aswell!"
The fact dragons are unable to or unwilling to do so may indicate they lack a theory of mind.
12 years ago! But yeah, dragoons usually do not have wyvern pets.
OP, I wanted a wyvern pet for the longest time too because I was really attached to mine on FFXI (I miss you, Jessie. ;_; ), but it would take a lot of rebalancing to even make it possible at this point. I think most people who career dragoon right now probably like it how it is. Maybe the next Final Fantasy MMO dragoon will have a partner in crime-fighting again.
I really wish we could have companions other than chocobos. I know they're iconic to Final Fantasy, but even being able to invest points in and outfit a different mount to fight alongside me - be it dragon, coeurl, unicorn, griffin, would be just awesome.
And goobue and fat chocobo while we're at it!
That's part of the point on why 3.0 focuses on getting man and dragons to be BFFs again; to see each other's point of views and trying to overcome the long history of distrust each side had of each other. Dragons aren't perfect. Their "never forgive or forget" policy has made them very close minded. Likewise, man hasn't learned from their own past. Ergo, both sides have to get over it and try to make things right.I listened to the story but I still think it's a pitiful excuse. Calm down, perhaps I worded my first post in a way that was overbearing. There will always be an excuse, it was more of a portrayal of a strong stance towards wanting a wyvern. I'll edit first post.
Decision making has nothing to do with anything. You're practically saying a dragon has no decision making involved and last time i checked they aren't robots. I didn't think you acute enough to realize that if young dragons are able to realize that not all non-dravanians are bad then surely they could try to fight for a better ideal? The future generation doesn't always have to follow in the pasts footsteps.
I respect your opinion for not wanting one though.

Aside from the lore, for me it's just about the playstyle of the job. I've been a Dragoon for two years now. Don't throw me off by throwing a pet into the mix. The job is good the way it is. It's well balanced and fun to play.
Ditto, but they more or less shot the idea down for the dragon as a companion in the Live Letter XXIII:
However, it was only mentioned that they need to create attack animations and such as being one of the "obstacles" for making a new companion. I see no reason why we can't have anything else besides a Chocobo that already has such animations in-game aside from "we'd have to make new levels. No." And after thinking about it... Isn't there already "motions for attack" in-game for Dragonet mobs?Q60. Do you have plans introduce a minion or companion based on the young dragon we see in Anyx Trine?
A60. For companion, we need to create motions for attack, and levels, so we currently have no plans for this; however, for a minion, I’m sure the minion alliance are secretly planning this, or may be already working on it secretly
